Event Series The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee

NJ, United States

Friday & Saturday - 8PM Sunday - 2PM Adults $22 - Seniors/Students $20 An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming "ding" of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves! At least the losers get a juice box.

Bird Beak Buffet

NJ, United States

Have you ever thought about how many different bird beaks you’ve seen? Why does a hummingbird beak look so much different than the beak on an eagle? Aren’t they both birds? All animals have special adaptations that help them to survive in their environment. A very important adaptation for food gathering in birds is the size and shape of their beak. Join our class as we focus on different types of bird beaks and discover how each type of beak functions in collecting specific types of food. Using everyday items that model different bird beaks, we’ll discover the mystery of why there is such a variety of bird beaks. Then, when you see a bird, even if you don’t know what it is, you’ll be able to make an educated guess about what it eats. This program is appropriate for children in grades 2 through 5. Children must be accompanied by an adult who is also registered. Please dress for the weather. Participants should be prepared to walk less than 1-mile on paved and unpaved trails. Meet in front of the Farm Barn Orientation Center for check-in. We recommend arriving 10-15 minutes before the start of class. We cannot accommodate late

Event Series Fall Harvest Days

Fall Harvest Days

NJ, United States

Norz Hill Farm has been in our family since 1922 when Hillsborough was very rural and all of our neighbors were farmers. Today most all of you, our neighbors from near and far, are generations removed from farm families so it is very important to us to be able to provide an educational, breathtaking and fun experience while visiting our Farm. Farm Tours The tour takes you on a hay wagon ride from our farm stand area to the farm, then you can get off and see all the animals. Some of the animals you will find are cows, miniature donkeys (yep, we have a Dominick the donkey!), horses, alpaca, sheep, chickens, goats, pigs, bunnies, emu's and even a zonkey. Then when you have had a chance to see all the animals, you can catch the next hayride right to our pumpkin patch. The Corn Maze Each and every year we dedicate our corn maze to either events that happen on our farm or a great local cause. SO while you are here you can be challenged to find your way through our 5 acres of farm fun! Kids' Corner & Fun Things Our Kids Croner is a fun area
