    Saturday, October 10, 2026, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. & Sunday, October 11, 2026, 12 p.m. – 4 p.m. Rockingham State Historic Site, N.J. 84 Laurel Ave., Kingston, NJ 08528 The Declaration of Independence was adopted 250 years ago in 1776 but another seven years of the Revolutionary War followed until independence was affirmed with the Treaty of Paris in 1783. Visit George Washington’s Final Wartime Headquarters at Rockingham for an open house of “Endings and Beginnings” exploring documents from the start and end of the Revolutionary War including George Washington’s Farewell Orders to the Armies of the United States composed in headquarters at Rockingham.     New Jersey welcomes the world to Rockingham State Historic Site for the 250th Birthday of the United States. Visit the historic New Jersey Dutch Barn for an illustrated introduction to George Washington’s final headquarters of the Revolutionary War. Handle reproduction artifacts of the Revolutionary War. Sign up for tours of the grounds. Rockingham was George Washington's final wartime headquarters. Arriving from New York, Washington stayed at Rockingham from August 23, 1783 and left November 10, 1783. While at Rockingham, Washington entertained guests, issued his Farewell Orders to the Army, and learned the United States became formally independent with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. The historic house remains closed due to construction for stabilization of the south elevation. ? Revolution NJ is New Jersey’s official observance of the 250th anniversaries of New Jersey’s first Constitution July 2, 2026 and the American Revolution in New Jersey from 2024 – 2033.
