Dion Hitchings, Artist of the Month: Portraits on Recycled Trash
Gallery on Main's "Artist of the Month" series continues with an exhibition of mixed-media work by Milford, New Jersey-based artist Dion Hitchings, on view August 1 through 31. Admission is free, and the artist’s works are available for purchase. Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, August 6, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Says Hitchings of his Portraits on Recycled Trash series, “Within my artwork I have found my own ‘unique world’ which has no rules or boundaries. My inspirations are varied and vast, everything from dreams and Indians, nuns and demons, the Jerry Springer Show and chickens to sins and celebrities. My world, and therefore my art, is guaranteed to be colorful, self-revealing, emotional, childlike and an ‘eye full’ to all who view it.” Hitchings creates sophisticated works with various children's art supplies including, crayons, magic markers, highlighters and colored pens. He explains, “Using consumer boxes, discarded furniture and ‘trash’ instead of traditional drawing surfaces has enabled me to break down pre-existing print, images, and textures while allowing the type and pictures from the recycled object to become organically part of the portrait.” He continues, “During the creative process, I discovered the need to deconstruct then reconstruct the

125 Years of Historic Preservation at Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage
Wallace House opened as an historic house museum in 1897 during Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee. This year we mark 125 years of historic preservation at Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage on the occasion Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. This historic houses tour explores the history of the preservation of Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage from the Wallace House's opening by the Revolutionary Memorial Society of New Jersey in 1897 and Sen. Joseph S. Frelinghuysen, Sr.'s relocation of Old Dutch Parsonage in 1913 to their donation to the State of New Jersey in 1947 and the ongoing work of the Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association today as we prepare for the 250th anniversaries of New Jersey's first Constitution and the American Revolution in New Jersey in 2026.

Tour of Rockingham House
Come along on an exploration of Rockingham's history, with an emphasis on the period as General Washington's Headquarters in later 1783. About this event While the Continental Congress was meeting in Princeton, Rockingham, home of the prominent Berrien family, served as General George Washington's final Revolutionary War headquarters for over two-and-one-half months in 1783. On October 31, 1783, Washington and Congress received the long awaited news—the final version of the Treaty of Paris had been signed and the thirteen colonies were indeed independent of Great Britain. For eight years Washington had served his country in the Revolutionary War and as one of his last official acts wrote the Farewell Orders to the Armies at Rockingham in late October, in which he expressed his deep admiration and appreciation for the American army and announced his return to civilian life—renouncing any thought of kingship and ensuring the newly-minted country was headed in the direction envisioned in the Declaration of Independence seven years before. Join us for a tour of Rockingham and its 18th-century period-furnished rooms, with a special focus on General Washington's stay, including who accompanied him and what occurred at that time in the house's history! The Japanese practice of Shinrin-yoku, which translates as "forest bathing” is intended to help foster a connection with nature that feeds the mind, body, and spirit. Join yoga instructor Megan Soucy for a forest bathing experience at Colonial Park Gardens. The experience will include an easy, slow hike through the gardens and arboretum. It will also include meditation and centering sessions, intended to encourage the nurturing qualities of being present within nature. Participants are encouraged to bring a small blanket or towel to sit on, water, and suitable shoes for walking. Please meet at the entrance of the Colonial Park Rose Garden, Parking Lot A. Reading in advance is NOT required. Although offered as a series, each lecture stands on its own and assumes no prior knowledge. New participants are always welcome. Wednesday, September 14, 2022 online at 7pm: Cincinnatus in Caesarea George Washington weathers the worst winter of the Revolutionary War from headquarters in Morristown in 1779-80 and then travels a revolutionary route through New Jersey with Gen. Rochambeau in the summer of 1781 that will culminate in victory at Yorktown. Rockingham, near Princeton, serves as George Washington’s final wartime headquarters in 1783 as the Treaty of Paris is signed and the Commander-in-Chief issues his Farewell Orders to the Armies of the United States. Join us at Lima Family Farms on Friday, September 30th between 5-8 pm. Chef Hank will be preparing pasture raised food for purchase along side Tony from Martenette Farms cooking up Vegan mushroom sliders! Beverages from both Flounder Brewing and Ironbound Cider will be sold as a fundraiser for the Northeast Organic Farming Association of NJ. Free hay wagon tour or pasture walk tour both begin at 6 pm. Hay wagon tour will span the entire acreage of the property with a farm staff member on board to answer any questions. Pasture walk will be given by John Lima and provide a more in depth look at our farming practices. We hope you will join us — bring a lawn chair to enjoy the music, hang out and visit with your local farmer. Admission is FREE, but cash is preferred for food and drink purchases. Please note: There is no “table service” at this event.

Saturday, Oct 1st from 1 pm until 9 pm. Located on North Bridge St. between Main st and High st. in Downtown Somerville Another annual Oktoberfest Celebration brought to you by Tapastre & Project PUB. Eat, drink and be merry! Local craft beers and traditional Oktoberfest brews will be on hand, along with plenty of food from local restaurants and live music from awesome bands throughout the day.
