This spring as the sun sets join an “out-of-doors” reading room as we read and discuss selected passages from an historic author and connect these works to Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage and New Jersey history. No advanced reading or preparation is required. Dress to sit outdoors. 250 years ago in the spring of 1773 Phillis Wheatley traveled from America to England to publish Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral, making her the first published African-American poet and the first African-American female published writer. Spring Birding Course: Birding by Ear

Spring Birding Course: Birding by Ear Spend the peak of spring migration with the Environmental Education Center and learn the critical, yet challenging, skill of birding by ear. This multi-week course is designed to build and refine skills as an auditory birder. There will be virtual reviews and preparatory classes offered Thursday nights with specifically crafted morning walks Saturday mornings. The goal is to see considerable personal growth as these vocal migrants pass through northern New Jersey. A detailed schedule will be provided prior to the start of the course. Following each walk we will recap the morning and provide light refreshments. Thursdays, April 27, and May 4, 11, 18, 25 - (Virtual Classes) - 7:00pm-8:00pm Saturdays, April 29, and May 6, 20, and 27 - (Morning Walks) - 6:00am-9:00am - (No walk on May 13)

U-Pick Strawberry Weekends Picking depends on weather and crop availability, so please check our phone message for any updates before you visit. We currently do not take credit cards, an ATM will be on premises. Field fee is $5.00 per person plus cost of berries. Field fee for children under 2, free. No outside food or drink, No smoking on the premises, No pets allowed. A wagon ride is required to get back to the strawberry field -Please check in at the little farm shed to the right of the parking area for wagon instructions. Pre picked strawberries will be available at our outdoor market. Activity area and Jumbo Jumper will be open for the kiddos, you can purchase tickets at the little farm shed where you received your wagon ride tickets. Hours are Weekends 9AM to 4PM last car in at 3:00 For your safety Please always watch your footing on the property, there are rocks, sticks, holes, and uneven ground. We have everything you need for picking, no need to bring baskets. All picking depends on weather & crop availability, please check our Facebook page or call before you visit for any updates. NJ Audubon: Lord Stirling Park Birdwalk

Led by Dave Oster, Associate Naturalist The Lord Stirling Park birdwalks have had up to 70 species and 13 warbler species in one day. This is a great spot for flycatchers, vireos, warblers, and goodies like Great-horned Owl, Red-headed Woodpecker, Alder Flycatcher, and Marsh Wren. Trails are level but may be wet depending on recent rain. Please bring your own binoculars or spotting scope if desired. There will be no equipment available to borrow. Registration required. Walk-ins will not be permitted to participate. Cost: $15 members, $20 nonmembers. Ticket sales end on 5/19 at 4:00 PM.
