Held twice each year in spring and fall, this beloved event draws thousands of bargain hunters, collectors, and neighbors from across New Jersey and beyond — all united by a shared spirit of community and generosity. Humble Beginnings and a Legacy of Service Rummage (as those in the know call it) traces its origins back to 1923, when volunteers at the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills organized a simple fundraising sale at the Far Hills Fairgrounds to support home health services. What started with just a few tables has grown into New Jersey’s oldest and largest rummage sale, a cornerstone event in Somerset County’s calendar. From the very beginning, the goal of Rummage has been to support quality health care at home and in the community, helping older adults, individuals recovering from illness or surgery, and those living with chronic conditions remain where they are most comfortable: in their own homes. 2026 World Series of Birding
At midnight, on May 19, 1984, 13 teams set out on a 24-hour treasure hunt. Their mission: To tally as many different species of birds by sight or sound. Their objective: To raise money for their favorite environmental cause, and to focus attention on the habitat needs of migrating birds. They succeeded beyond anyone’s dreams and in 2026, we hope to see over 90 teams and participants vie for glory and their share of the excitement in North America’s most spirited conservation fundraising event, the Annual WORLD SERIES OF BIRDING. Join in on the fun while raising money and awareness for bird and habitat conservation. WHY? The World Series of Birding is a “competitive” big day. But just like a marathon, the accent is on participating, not winning. There are many benefits to participants, teams and sponsors. Here are just a handful: It draws attention to the habitat needs of migrating birds It provides birders a chance to test and use their skills for a great cause It provides a forum for interaction between birders, conservation organization representatives and businesses that cater to the birding market It generates hundreds of thousands of dollars for a number of worthy conservation organizations
