Diwali at The Commons
Diwali at The Commons Bridgewater Commons, in partnership with Renascent Media, celebrates the South Asian festival of lights with a spectacular live show in Center Court filled with music, dance, crafts, giveaways and more. Diwali is the Hindu festival of lights, with variations celebrated in other Indian religions symbolizing the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance." Guests are encouraged to dress up traditionally. To celebrate this festive holiday, guests will experience the following: Special Guest Emcees Radio Guru Kulraaj Anand and Anchor and Producer at ITV Gold Piya Jyoti Kachroo. Bollywood Dance performance by the Satrangi School of Fusion, a premier Bollywood dance studio by decorated choreographer Rohheet Baxi. The group will feature adult and child dancers as young as 8 performing traditional and contemporary fusion Bollywood dances. Epic Ramlila theatrical presentation by the Navrang Dance Academy. Guests will experience the breathtaking moment when Lord Rama, alongside Sita and Lakshmana, returns to his kingdom after 14 years of exile and the heroic defeat of Ravana. My Italy Story
My Italy Story American Theater Group presents "My Italy Story" by noted NJ playwright and Moth Storyteller Joseph Gallo -- a nostalgic exploration of family, heritage and the ties that bind us. Spurred by pleas to help reunite his fractured family, a young man quits his job and travels to Vallata — the tiny Italian town of his ancestors. Not until he returns home, however, does he discover a secret that unlocks his past. Don’t miss this endearing one-man show directed by Charlotte Cohn and starring Michael Notardonato, who recently appeared in the Off-Broadway hit, Romeo and Bernadette. Joseph Gallo is a four-time Moth Story Slam Winner and will be competing in the upcoming NYC Grand Slam Championship.

Angela Pilgrim & Barbara Wallace Solo Exhibitions at The Center for Contemporary Art The Center for Contemporary Art is pleased to present two fall solo exhibitions on view September 27 through December 8. Angela Pilgrim: New Growth presents the work of Angela Pilgrim whose studio is in Newark, New Jersey. She explains, “My work explores the Black female gaze through figurative imagery of the body. Utilizing portraiture, printmaking, pattern making and mixed media.” Barbara Wallace: Sculpture showcases the work of sculptor Barbara Wallace, who resides in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Wallace is a sculptor known for her figurative art works and innovative use of recycled materials. When discussing her work, she explains, “Shape, form and structure are essential aspects of my sculptures created with a paper mache technique in recycled paper, cardboard, wire, metal and acrylic paint…. Using up-cycled resources addresses my concerns about climate change and the environment.”
Creative Women’s Showcase
Creative Women's Showcase The Center is pleased to present the Creative Women’s Showcase exhibition on view November 1 – December 8, 2024, curated by Ilisa Zollenberg. Exhibiting artists Serena Bocchino (Basking Ridge), Meeta Garg (Basking Ridge), Ivey Kampouris (Bridgewater), Grace Martoccia (Basking Ridge), Seanna Noonan (Basking Ridge), Carolina W. Rivera (Califon), Isabell Villacis (South Bound Brook), and Ilisa Zollenberg (Basking Ridge) will showcase their work in mixed media, pastels, acrylic, photography, and more. Ilisa Zollenberg, Curator, says “Art is a powerful communicator. It connects us to each other. It introduces us to strangers. It is a storyteller of the soul. It entices the audience to look further into a message that needs to be told.” There will be a special opening reception, free and open to the public, on November 1 from 5:30-9pm with a celebration of women artists and business owners with an art exhibition, vendor sale, and meet & greet.
