These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Registration required by 4:00 PM the day before the walk. Pre-registration Required. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. Washington’s Headquarters on Horseback for Somerset County’s History on the Green Meet George Washington and William Lee with three dragoons of the Continental Army all on horseback at Washington’s Headquarters at Wallace House State Historic Site. Renowned reenactor John Koopman portrays Gen. Washington in the summer of 1779. As the Continental Army’s Middlebrook Cantonment in Somerset County concludes, Gen. Washington prepares to depart headquarters at the Wallace House and tells stories of the Revolutionary War in New Jersey including the “Ten Crucial Days” of the Battles of Trenton and Princeton. At 12 p.m. join Gen. Washington, William Lee and the dragoons as they march from Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites to Somerset County’s Courthouse Green, a ¾ mile flat walk on Main Street in Downtown Somerville. Somerset County’s History on the Green featuring a pop-up encapmment and more living history continues all day 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on the Courthouse Green between N.
