Field of Honor Celebration The Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House will host Bedminster’s Field of Honor® at River Road Park. The tribute will celebrate our nation’s independence, and honor all those who have served our country with pride and dignity, with a display of over 200 American flags in the north field of River Road Park along Route 202/206 in Bedminster. The Whitehouse Wind Symphony will perform from 12-1. If you wish to dedicate a flag in someone's honor, visit https://checkout.square.site/.../O3A6OSHZMQRATLEN35VVGJCR . Field of Honor at Jacobus Vanderveer
Field of Honor at Jacobus Vanderveer The community is invited to stroll through the field of flags and tour the Jacobus Vanderveer House, including a model of the Pluckemin Cantonment, America’s 1st military academy. At 11:30 am Bedminster Mayor Larry Jacobs and the Bedminster Environmental Commission will plant a seedling from the Historic Salem Oak Tree - one of New Jersey's most treasured trees for its size, longevity, and history. At 12:00 pm join us for a live performance by the White House Wind Symphony! Bring your chairs, blankets and have a picnic. Admission is free, with a $10 suggested donation to tour the house. Dedicate a flag and honor your loved ones for $25! Dedications will be featured on the JVH website, social media, and a post-event email. Families of active-duty military personnel (including National Guard and Reserve) can sponsor a flag at no charge (compliments of The Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House). Flags may be sponsored by mailing your dedication and payment to The Friends of the Jacobus Vanderveer House, P.O. The program will feature a range of selections that includes patriotic tunes / marches, Broadway tunes and movie themes! Attendees are encouraged to bring picnic blankets and chairs. Arabella Barlow’s Somerville in Street & Stone – Walking Tour Civil War heroine Arabella Barlow, a great-granddaughter of the Wallace family of Wallace House and Hardenbergh family of Old Dutch Parsonage, was born in Somerville 200 years ago in 1824. Stroll the streets of Somerville for an introduction to the town and transportation in Arabella's childhood and adult life. Conclude at Arabella's historic gravestone in Somerville's Old Cemetery with the story of Arabella's service on the battlefields of the Civil War, death in a Union hospital in Washington, D.C. and burial back home in Somerville. Admission is free. Wear sturdy shoes and bring water. This walking tour travels about 2 ½ miles on flat sidewalk. Stay in Somerville after the tour for “Arabella Barlow’s New Jersey in Story & Song,” an outdoors concert by historical musician and balladeer Linda Russell, Saturday, June 1, 2024, 3 p.m. at Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites.
