247th Commemoration of The Battle of Bound Brook Join us for an exciting and historic weekend April 13 – 14, 2024! The two-day living history program explores the American Revolutionary War during the timeframe of the Battle of Bound Brook and the foraging wars of 1777. Learn about and experience this important period in New Jersey’s and America’s history. Multiple activities across venues include 18th Century Soldier’s Encampment and Street Battles, camp life portrayed by living history reenactors as American and British troops, sutlers, and others of that period. Ceremony at Old Presbyterian Graveyard, Sunday Buffet Breakfast, Historic House tours/lectures and more! Whether you are looking for a family-fun experience, a history buff, a visitor to the area or searching for a new, interesting event to attend, each year’s living history weekend at the Battle of Bound Brook is unique, fun, and exciting. The historic Abraham Staats House, with the original structure c. 1740, was home to the Staats family for nearly 200 years and served as the headquarters for George Washington’s “Drillmaster” Baron von Steuben in 1779. “English Style” Collagraph Prints with Len Merlo Saturday, April 13th, 11am-4pm Members: $70, Non-Members: $85, Material Fee: $50 In this course, artists will learn how to combine rich tonalities and textures with the mysterious effects of Collagraph (Relief) and Drypoint (Intaglio) techniques. Participants will prepare, create, and print two plates that use both relief and intaglio methods. All materials, mediums, and clean-up materials used in this course will be non-toxic, and they will fulfill the mission of our non-toxic and environmentally safe initiative. About the Instructor: Len Merlo is a full time artist and activist living and working in South Plainfield, NJ. He has 25 years of experience teaching art in NJ Public Schools and has taught workshops in ceramics, sculpture and printmaking. He served on the Board of Directors at The Print Center of New Jersey, and The Arts Guild of New Jersey. He is also a member and workshop instructor a Frontline Arts. This FREE historic walking tour will give you interesting information about Bound Brook's past and present. Along the way we will stop at participating locations for food and drinks. Our restaurant partners will give free samplings of food! A complimentary beer will be provided at our event venue stop. All other desired beverages are for purchase by attendees at each bar. Bonsai Trees- Shaping and Pruning Get ready to celebrate the arrival of spring with our "Bonsai Tree!" event, discover the beauty and tranquility of Bonsai! In this monthly workshop series- every class is unique! You will learn how to use plants, shrubs, and trees from your back yard to create a beautiful Bonsai that lasts for years. This process is know as the art of Yamadori—or foraged plant specimens skillfully trained into works of art known as Bonsai. This workshop is led by Blooms at Belle Mead's favorite Bonsai enthusiast, Peter Bethune. Peter brings examples of his bonsai work to show you different techniques and tricks of the trade! This month focuses on how to wake up bonsai trees from their winter slumber. Spring is here! For a more in-depth experience, bring in a small young tree of your own. With Peter’s instruction, you will learn how to trim and train your bonsai! Attend each monthly class- growing in knowledge as your bonsai tree grows!
