Angela Pilgrim & Barbara Wallace Solo Exhibitions at The Center for Contemporary Art The Center for Contemporary Art is pleased to present two fall solo exhibitions on view September 27 through December 8. Angela Pilgrim: New Growth presents the work of Angela Pilgrim whose studio is in Newark, New Jersey. She explains, “My work explores the Black female gaze through figurative imagery of the body. Utilizing portraiture, printmaking, pattern making and mixed media.” Barbara Wallace: Sculpture showcases the work of sculptor Barbara Wallace, who resides in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Wallace is a sculptor known for her figurative art works and innovative use of recycled materials. When discussing her work, she explains, “Shape, form and structure are essential aspects of my sculptures created with a paper mache technique in recycled paper, cardboard, wire, metal and acrylic paint…. Using up-cycled resources addresses my concerns about climate change and the environment.”

Creative Women’s Showcase

Creative Women's Showcase The Center is pleased to present the Creative Women’s Showcase exhibition on view November 1 – December 8, 2024, curated by Ilisa Zollenberg. Exhibiting artists Serena Bocchino (Basking Ridge), Meeta Garg (Basking Ridge), Ivey Kampouris (Bridgewater), Grace Martoccia (Basking Ridge), Seanna Noonan (Basking Ridge), Carolina W. Rivera (Califon), Isabell Villacis (South Bound Brook), and Ilisa Zollenberg (Basking Ridge) will showcase their work in mixed media, pastels, acrylic, photography, and more. Ilisa Zollenberg, Curator, says “Art is a powerful communicator. It connects us to each other. It introduces us to strangers. It is a storyteller of the soul. It entices the audience to look further into a message that needs to be told.” There will be a special opening reception, free and open to the public, on November 1 from 5:30-9pm with a celebration of women artists and business owners with an art exhibition, vendor sale, and meet & greet.

This exhibition highlights artistic expression as a vital healing tool, helping individuals process emotions, share their journeys, and reconnect with themselves and their communities. Through painting, sculpture, photography and more, participants find strength, resilience, and hope. “The Art of Recovery” celebrates how creativity fosters personal growth, reduces stigma, and unites communities.

Sunset Meditation at the RVCC Planetarium

Sunset Meditation at the RVCC Planetarium Join Friday, November 8th at 7:00 pm for a peaceful sunset meditation at the RVCC Planetarium. How do STEM workers, NASA professionals, athletes, and business executives cope with stress? Mindfulness. Meditation is a powerful tool for maintaining psychological health and resilience. Since the planetarium offers a dark and quiet space for relaxation, it is the perfect place for meditation. Enjoy a guided meditation experience in the comfortable, reclined seats in the RVCC Planetarium. Relax under a night sky filled with stars, then travel from Earth to beyond our galaxy. (Recommended for ages 10-adult) Tickets are $11 per person for one show, $20 per person for two. Reservations are recommended but not required.
