The Friends of Abraham Staats House and South Bound Brook Historic Preservation Advisory Commission are delighted to once again present the "Tory Jack Day" program at the Abraham Staats House. This annual event, held each February in honor of Black History Month, celebrates the contribution and sacrifices of Afro-Americans in the foundation of our nation. This year we have two featured presentations after the welcome message: 9:30AM: Welcome – Somerset County Commission Director Shanel Y. Robinson 9:35AM: Award-winning author Cindy Williams Newsome discusses her recently published book: “Hobbstown:  The Forgotten Legacy of a Unique African American Community.” 11AM: Our featured performer at the event for two decades, Joe Becton, renowned historian and former National Park Service Interpretive Specialist, is joined by his brother for a special presentation, “The Becton Brothers’ Musical Walk Through History.”  Joe Becton sets a standard of excellence in connecting Americans to our historic past through his inspiring narrative and music.We also are offering the option to view the program remotely via Zoom. Nature Infused Yoga with NJ Audubon

Led by Kristin Mylecraine, Yoga Teacher. Yoga is a great way to relax, connect with yourself, and increase flexibility and strength. Explore the connections between yoga and nature in this 75-minute class. No experience necessary; all levels welcome. For ages 15 years and older. Preregistration is required.  Ticket sales end at 4:30 PM on the Friday before each class. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. We are offering an in-person class at the sanctuary and a virtual class online simultaneously. The in-person class has a limit of 10 people. Be sure to purchase the correct ticket. Philly Special: Philadelphia History in Revolutionary New Jersey

Philadelphia fans and foes alike will enjoy this Philly Special tour of Philadelphia history in Revolutionary New Jersey before the Big Game. Wallace House State Historic Site was the New Jersey home of a Philadelphia family and hosted George Washington's winter headquarters during the Revolutionary War. Learn about the Wallace family in life and death in Philadelphia, George and Martha Washington's visit to Philadelphia while the Continental Army camped in New Jersey in 1778-79, the family fight between Philadelphia's Benjamin Franklin and his son New Jersey's Royal Governor William Franklin, the historical debate over Philadelphia's Betsy Ross or New Jersey's Francis Hopkinson as first fabricator of the Stars and Stripes, and the unlikely origin of American football in the revolutionary rivalry between New Jersey's colonial colleges.

Somerville High School Visual Arts Showcase

Somerville High School, in partnership with Bridgewater Commons, proudly showcase over 400 pieces of student artwork from grades 9 -12 on display in a gallery setting at the Community Hub, elevating their annual March celebration of the arts. The artwork will include digital and fine arts from pencil, paint, pen, and ink to mixed media pieces and photography. Somerville High School has been serving students in 9th thru 12th grades from Somerville and Branchburg Township in Somerset County since 1888.

NJ Audubon Digital Photography Workshop 5: Landscape Photography

Instructor: David DesRochers This program will focus on techniques for finding and capturing unique images of the endless natural art our planet has to offer. Subjects covered include equipment, planning, composition, and capture. In addition, the program will cover photo editing techniques used to process landscape images using Adobe Camera RAW, Photoshop, and NIK Plug Ins. Students are encouraged to submit one photo (preferably RAW) for editing demonstrations. One person per ticket. Ticket sale ends on 2/10/23 at 5:00 PM. CANCELLATION: NJ Audubon’s programs require a minimum number of registrants to run. If we cancel, due to lack of participation, severe weather, or unforeseen circumstances, all participants will be notified as soon as possible and are eligible for a full refund.
