More often than not, birds are heard before they are seen (if seen at all!) Learning their songs will add another dimension to your birdwatching. Randy learned birding as a youngster under the wings of the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology’s founders and is a master at recording bird songs for the Cornell Lab. Pass through the checkered Flemish bond brickwork at Old Dutch Parsonage into the historic home of the founder and first president of Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Continue through the historic kitchen for Hope Farm and enter the largest home built during the Revolutionary War in New Jersey. Learn about the women and men in slavery and freedom who comprised the "military family" at George Washington's winter headquarters and the challenges and accomplishments of the Commander-in-Chief during the Continental Army's Middlebrook Cantonment from December 1778 to June 1779.

During the period of Lent preceding Pascha, or Easter, Ukrainians write pysanky, or decorate eggs, using ancient symbols. From the deep past, these patterns were thought to imbue the egg with magical powers and ward away evil spirits, and they later took on Christian meanings. 250 years ago in the spring of 1773 Phillis Wheatley traveled from America to England to publish Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral, making her the first published African-American poet and the first African-American female published writer. This historic houses tour of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage introduces the works of three early Black American women in words, considering Phillis Wheatley’s poetic perspective on the American Revolution, Hetty Saunders’ solace and stewardship of nature in New Jersey in the early American republic, and Sojourner Truth’s African Dutch social and spiritual heritage as background to her activism through the nation’s Civil War.

Located at the Community Hub at Bridgewater Commons, Main Level across from the LEGO Store. Somerville High School, in partnership with Bridgewater Commons, proudly showcase over 400 pieces of student artwork from grades 9 -12 on display in a gallery setting at the Community Hub, elevating their annual March celebration of the arts. The artwork will include digital and fine arts from pencil, paint, pen, and ink to mixed media pieces and photography. Somerville High School has been serving students in 9th thru 12th grades from Somerville and Branchburg Township in Somerset County since 1888.

Woodcock return to Franklin Township in late winter or early spring to mate and nest. Males of the species begin calling and performing an aerial courtship-display-flight when the afternoon shadows are almost gone. We’ll hear more than we see. But the martinet Nurse Ratched runs the psychiatric ward with an iron fist, keeping her patients cowed through abuse, medication and sessions of electroconvulsive therapy. The battle of wills between the rebellious McMurphy and the inflexible Ratched soon affects all the ward's patients. Directed by: Dan Vissers
