New Jersey welcomes the world to Rockingham State Historic Site this summer for the 250th Birthday of the United States. Rockingham was George Washington's final wartime headquarters. Arriving from New York, Washington stayed at Rockingham from August 23, 1783 and left November 10, 1783. While at Rockingham, Washington entertained guests, issued his Farewell Orders to the Army, and learned the United States became formally independent with the signing of the Treaty of Paris. Rockingham was George Washington’s final wartime headquarters in the fall of 1783, but the American Commander in Chief’s stay makes up just a few months in over 300 years of Rockingham’s story. Follow Rockingham through history from its earliest construction in the 1710s to relocation and preservation in the twenty-first century. Learn about Rockingham as home to the Higgins, Berrien and Cruser families of the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, Rockingham’s role in the early Rocky Hill Quarry Co., and the transformation of Rockingham over the past 125 years into a historic shrine of the Washington Headquarters Association and then a State Historic Site of New Jersey. Historical musician and balladeer Linda Russell presents songs and stories of America’s past from 1776 to 1976! Linda sings love songs, humorous ditties, patriotic anthems, work songs and tunes from America’s wars as well as a hit or two from the 1950s. Included will be audience sing-alongs, like Yankee Doodle, O Susanna, The Battle Hymn of the Republic, I’m a Yankee Doodle Dandy, The Tennessee Waltz and This Land is Your Land. Game Highlight (2): Fireworks Don't miss the best fireworks in New Jersey after the game. Game Highlight: Sonic the Hedgehog Appearance Sonic the Hedgehog will meet fans and take pictures on the main concourse during the game. For meet and greets, the Somerset Patriots use a wristband system. Different color wristbands will be distributed to fans on the main concourse, behind section 202, when gates open to the public at 12:00 pm. This area is accessed by entering the Main Gate, which is located between the Ticket Office and Team Store. Wristbands are on a first come, first served basis and are limited in quantity while supplies last. Once they receive a wristband, fans can enjoy the game until their wristband color is called over the PA system or shown on the scoreboard. When their color is called fans can get on the meet and greet line. Once fans receive their picture/autograph, their wristband will be removed and they can go to their seats to enjoy the game.
