On the Lookout for Lafayette: Tracing Travels & Tours through New Jersey
The Marquis de Lafayette, on mission for George Washington at the Court of Versailles, did not join Gen. Washington’s winter headquarters at Wallace House for the Continental Army’s Middlebrook Cantonment of 1778-79, but Lafayette’s legacy loomed so large that a century after Lafayette’s Farewell Tour of the United States the Revolutionary Memorial Society furnished a “Gen. La Fayette Room” at the future Wallace House State Historic Site. Paul Larson of American Friends of Lafayette introduces the life and legacy of Lafayette in the United States and France, tracing Lafayette's travels in New Jersey as volunteer to George Washington in the Revolutionary War and as the Nation's Guest on his Farewell Tour of 1824-25. Saturday, March 2, 2024, 2:30 p.m. Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association St. John’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 158 West High Street, Somerville, NJ 08876
