Event Series Portrait Drawing

Portrait Drawing Course: Adult

Portrait Drawing Course *12 week course starting September 11, Mondays through November 27* Students will learn how to create a likeness through observation. The structure of the human head, proportion, facial features, and rendering form will be covered. Emphasis will be placed on expressive line quality, and understanding the figure in terms of volume and form. Various dry media will be explored including graphite, vine charcoal and conte crayon. Demonstrations will be provided. This class will be taking place online using ZOOM. Instructions on how to access the class will be sent the Friday before the class start date. Materials Most of the following supplies may be purchased at any art supply store. Start with what you already have. Not all materials are needed for the first day. Paper (students may work on white, or colored paper, or both): Charcoal/Pastel pads (11 x 14", 12 x 16", or 18 X 24") assorted colors for graphite or charcoal and/or individual sheets Graphite Pencils: 2B, B, HB, H, 2H or Mechanical pencils (.5mm and/or .9mm- HB, F, H, 2H, 4H) Charcoal Pencils: Assorted grades (General's and/or Pitt) Vine/Willow charcoal sticks White Charcoal

Evening Handbuilding Course *Adult Level Art Course starting September 11, Monday's through November 27* This class introduces handbuilding techniques step-by-step, opening the way for individual expression and success in clay. The instructor discusses the production of three-dimensional forms, firing, and glazes. In addition students learn more about using surface design and texture using slips, stamps & carving techniques  Those with more experience are shown additional techniques to incorporate into their work. Morning Oil Painting Course 

Morning Oil Painting Course *Adult 13 week art course starting Tuesday's September 12 - December 05, 10:00 am - 12:30 pm The focus of this class is to train the student in the basic skills needed to paint in oils with particular attention to the use of color, light, shadow, composition, brush handling and materials. Students work from photographs from either the instructor or from their own collection. Every class, a weekly challenge will be demonstrated focusing on either subject matter, technique or other various painting elements. The student can watch the demo and either execute the exercise or use the demo as a learning tool and apply to their continuing project. NOTE: There is no class on 10/31. Morning Watercolor Course 

Morning Watercolor Course *Adult 12 week art course starting Tuesday's September 12 - November 28, 10:00 am - 12:30 pm Enjoy the wonderful world of watercolor in this fun and relaxed class. Working from still life subjects and photographs, students learn basic and advanced techniques of watercolor, including washes, glazing and controlling edges, underscoring the importance of saving the light in translucent watercolor. Students are invited to work at their own level with guidance from the instructor. Note: This is the IN-STUDIO component of a hybrid class. The Power of Pastels Course

The Power of Pastels Course *Adult 13 week art course starting Tuesday's September 12 - December 05, 01:00 pm - 03:30 pm Understand the power of pastels! In this class students will learn how to work with several pastels, surfaces and techniques. A range of subject matter will be addressed such as still life, landscape, animals, and more. NOTE: There is no class on 10/31. Special Notes All students must comply with the Policies and Procedures found on The Center's website. There will be no refunds for students removed from class for failure to observe The Center’s Policies and Procedures.   Materials The more pastels the better! A great starter set is Prismacolor Nupastels. The minimum set recommended is 36 count. Surfaces are important for pastels. Pastelmat by Clairfontaine is recommended. (A variety pack in several colors in 9 x 12 size is encouraged) Other great pastel brands that are optional: Unison, Terry Ludwig, Sennelier.
