A burnout basement rocker and his ex-girlfriend, a rising star astrophysicist, may have the key to surviving the black hole bearing down on earth. If they can reconcile their feelings and manage a dangerous journey on the NJ Turnpike, they just may save their music, each other, and the mole people who live beneath them. Three Early Black American Women in Words: A Literary Historic Houses Tour
NJ, United States250 years ago in the spring of 1773 Phillis Wheatley traveled from America to England to publish Poems on Various Subjects, Religious and Moral, making her the first published African-American poet and the first African-American female published writer. This historic houses tour of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage introduces the works of three early Black American women in words, considering Phillis Wheatley’s poetic perspective on the American Revolution, Hetty Saunders’ solace and stewardship of nature in New Jersey in the early American republic, and Sojourner Truth’s African Dutch social and spiritual heritage as background to her activism through the nation’s Civil War.

Prosia, Peter Dakota Shalit, and Isabell Villacis. Moderated by Wes Sherman, visual artist and The Center’s Exhibitions Committee Chair, DeAnn, Peter, and Isabell will share their work, discuss form, content, process, their paths to becoming artists, and accept questions from the audience. This event is free and open to the public, with a suggested donation of $10. Light refreshments will be served
