New Jersey 360 & Quebec Act 250: Midsummer’s Eve Anniversaries Midsummer 2024 brings the 250th anniversary of the Quebec Act, propelling British North America closer into the American Revolution, and the 360th anniversary of New Jersey's indenture, establishing New Jersey as an English colony. This afternoon lecture for Midsummer's Eve explores both anniversaries with close readings of the New Jersey Indenture of 1664 and the Quebec Act of 1774, including the coincidence of their occurrence at St. John the Baptist Day, the National Day of Quebec. Admission is free. No registration is required.

Letterpress Posters & Broadsides with Dave DiMarchi Saturday, June 29th, 11am-4pm Members: $125, Non-Members: $140 Material Fee: $27 This workshop introduces the art and craft of letterpress printing of experimental, purpose-driven broadsides and posters. Using handset wood and metal type, artists will design and hand-print broadside/poster projects in small editions on the Vandercook press. The workshop will consist of technical demonstrations on setting type, inking and multiple color layer letterpress printing, and various simple image-printing processes. Employing less-toxic techniques and minimal chemical cleanup, this class is ideal for dipping your toes into Letterpress printing! Beginners welcome and encouraged! Students provide: Resource text: Up to 120 characters; this may be an attributed quote, personal writing, etc. Roll of Paper Towels Apron Pencil + Eraser and something in which to take notes About the Instructor: Dave DiMarchi is a queer, multi-disciplinary artist working in printmaking, papermaking and sculptural book forms. Nurturing ideas into singular and editioned works, he engages in a relentless research and material practice. As a multi-disciplinary artist, he has exhibited works on paper, installations and books in the US and internationally. NJ Audubon: The Hidden World of Spore Bearers Join teacher/naturalist Dorothy Smullen for a walk on the trails at Scherman Hoffman looking for all things producing spores. Join Dorothy for a walk on the trails at Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary looking for all things producing spores and NOT seeds. Once studied by cryptogamic botanists, spore bearers are fungi, lichens, mosses, liverworts, lycophytes and ferns. Come and see what we can find. Hand-outs available. Rain or shine. Fairy Hair Pop Up Kelly with @tinselbelnj will be joining us for our first Fairy Hair Pop Up!! Walk-ins Only! First come first serve. Two options and pricing: Fairy hair is tied onto the hair with a special knot that fuses the fairy hair to the hair strand. $15 for 6 strands, $25 for 10 strands, $35 for 15 strands, $45 for 20 strands. Alternatively, fairy hair extensions can also be applied with an extension bead. About 5 to 10 strands are threaded into a bead with a lock of hair and the bead is compressed to hold it tight. This will give you a different look as the fairy hair is concentrated in one place. $12 for one bead, $20 for two beads, $25 for three beads. Each bead includes 5 to 10 strands all together in a “chunky” and sparkly extension.

Harper Lovey & the Waitlist Concert Harper Lovey & The Waitlist will be releasing their first album, “Emotional Gobbledygook”, on June 28, 2024. There will be a free concert celebrating the release at The Farmstead Arts Center, Basking Ridge, New Jersey on June 29th at 4pm. Harper Lovey & The Waitlist is a band based out of Basking Ridge, New Jersey. Harper Ferdinand, Lorenzo Novello and Dylan Demcsak formed their band in 2020 while attending Ridge High School. Their song and video “Such Tiny People” was featured on PBS’s House Concert Series and played nationwide. They have also been featured on Freshest Radio in the UK. Their music is available on all streaming platforms. Harper Lovey & The Waitlist’s album Emotional Gobbledygook will feature all original music written by Harper Ferdinand. The band’s bedroom pop sound deals with emotions and relationships through heartfelt lyrics and catchy melodies. Harper counts Billie Joel, Ella Fitzgerald and The Beatles as inspiration for her songwriting. Lorenzo Novello is the band’s producer. Featured guest artist John Novello will be performing with them.
