Independence Day Activities, Food, and More!

Independence Day Activities, Food, and More!

4th of July is not going to be your typical holiday this year. What’s usually spent with gatherings of friends and family, or among crowds of people watching fireworks, this year, you’ll probably be recognizing this holiday a bit differently.

Events & Activities:

Somerset County has a rich history, and its location played an important role in the Revolutionary War. We have plenty of historic sites for you to visit (though you won’t be able to visit indoors). Check them out here.

Jacobus Vanderveer House is having their annual Field of Honor on display. Visitors can explore this historic property and check out the field of displayed flags. Interested in sponsoring a flag in honor of someone? You can sponsor a flag or purchase one today on JVH’s website. There will be a virtual dedication taking place on July 11.

Delaware and Raritan CanalHit the trails! *Please regularly check the New Jersey State Parks and Somerset County Park Commission social media pages. With social distancing guidelines and holidays being a popular time to get outside, these parks will fill up quickly. These pages make routine announcements once parks reach their capacity. Please note: both Rudolf W. van der Goot Rose Garden at Colonial Park and Leonard J. Buck Garden will be closed on Friday, July 3, and will be open on July 4-5 for the holiday.

Walk the trails and check out our gardens. If you enjoy birding, check out our Important Bird and Birding Areas (IBBAs).

We also hope you will visit our beautiful gardens.
