  • Conference on Horseback & Lunch with Washington

    A famous revolutionary event in the Kingston section of Franklin Township will be recreated, for the first time, on January 4, 2026, following that morning’s annual reenactment of the Battle of Princeton. Known as “The Conference on Horseback,” General Washington and his senior officers met in Kingston soon after their victory at Princeton in January 1777 to decide their next move. The reenactment at 2:30 PM will be open to the public at no cost and will follow a ticketed lunch at 12:30 PM with Washington and his officers at Eno Terra restaurant in Kingston. Both events follow the annual Battle of Princeton reenactment at 9:30 AM. The lunch and The Conference on Horseback are being organized by the Millstone Valley Preservation Coalition in cooperation with the Franklin Township 250 Committee, the Princeton Battlefield Society, and the Washington-Rochambeau Revolutionary Route Association (W3R-US). “Franklin Township is very proud to have been the site of a War Council meeting on horseback on the last of the ‘Ten Crucial Days’ when the possibility of American independence was saved,” said Franklin Mayor Phil Kramer. “This reenactment will officially kick-off a robust schedule of events throughout 2026 to commemorate our nation’s 250th anniversary, with a

  • Texier House Museum- Open House – Center of the Watchung Circle and Watchung’s History

    Staffed by volunteers of the Historical Committee. The 5 room "museum" is a work-in-progress and donations of artifacts, old photos, and monetary donations are always welcomed to enhance the displays. The Texier House Museum houses Watchung’s history in photos and artifacts for a hands-on experience.'Exhibit Highlights include: --Displays on World War I & II. Operate a preserved hand cranked siren that was meant to warn the residents of Watchung if any Nazi boats had stormed NJ shores. --A history of Watchung and Best Lakes, which were used for ice harvesting and in the early 1900 a wildly popular swim club. --Meat scale and well pump from O’Connor’s Restaurant, and memorabilia from restaurants of the past: Lake Edge, the Colorado Cafe, and Washington House. --A display on Adella (Tiby) Wotherspoon, the youngest survivor of the General Slocum Disaster of 1904 NYC’s deadliest disaster until Sept 11th. 1,021 of the 1,331 passengers died in New York City’s East River, mostly women and children.) --Display showcasing athletes of the Borough, including Sports Memorabilia from New York Giants legend Bobby Thomson. --A history of Hippolyte Texier, a glove manufacturer who lived in the Texier House. -Then and Now: An exhibit on historic homes from
