Live Performance @ Center Court - Saturday, Feb 21, 3pm – 4pm Arts & Crafts @ Event Space - Saturday, Feb 21 and Feb 22, 12pm – 6pm, Located on the Main Level, next to Vans Bridgewater Commons in partnership with The Center for Cultural & Creative Exchange present Lunar New Year @ The Commons, featuring traditional Asian performances and a dragon dance accompanied by the music of beating of drums, cymbals, and gong instruments synchronized to dragon dance movements believed to bring good luck and fortune. The Lunar New Year is the grandest ancient traditional festival in Asia signaling the beginning of spring and the arrival of the new year. Celebrating the Year of the Fire Horse, the traditional Chinese giving of red envelopes filled with treats and special offers will delight lucky attendees. Families are also welcomed to partake in a Chinese arts and crafts workshop at the Event Space on both Saturday, February 21 and February 22 from 12pm - 6pm, located on the Main Level next to Vans. Join us Saturday, February 21st from 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm for a FREE event at the RVCC Planetarium! Explore hands-on activities inspired by codes found in the song “Follow the Drinking Gourd” and in quilt squares to learn more about astronomy and the Underground Railroad, a secretive network of people and places that helped thousands of enslaved people move northward as far as Canada to escape slavery. Participants may explore hands-on activities and view displays about nature, codes, and African Americans who have made a difference. (Recommended for ages 6-12) No reservations required.
