Dion Hitchings, Artist of the Month: Portraits on Recycled Trash

Gallery on Main's "Artist of the Month" series continues with an exhibition of mixed-media work by Milford, New Jersey-based artist Dion Hitchings, on view August 1 through 31. Admission is free, and the artist’s works are available for purchase. Join us for the opening reception on Saturday, August 6, from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. Says Hitchings of his Portraits on Recycled Trash series, “Within my artwork I have found my own ‘unique world’ which has no rules or boundaries. My inspirations are varied and vast, everything from dreams and Indians, nuns and demons, the Jerry Springer Show and chickens to sins and celebrities. My world, and therefore my art, is guaranteed to be colorful, self-revealing, emotional, childlike and an ‘eye full’ to all who view it.” Hitchings creates sophisticated works with various children's art supplies including, crayons, magic markers, highlighters and colored pens. He explains, “Using consumer boxes, discarded furniture and ‘trash’ instead of traditional drawing surfaces has enabled me to break down pre-existing print, images, and textures while allowing the type and pictures from the recycled object to become organically part of the portrait.” He continues, “During the creative process, I discovered the need to deconstruct then reconstruct the

Opening day for the sunflower maze is Friday August 12th Hours: 4pm to 8pm Hours after August 12th will be: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – 4pm to 8pm Weekends: 8am to 3pm Please note days in red that we will have different hours PLEASE NOTE: On Saturday AUG.13th the Sunflower maze hours are 8am to 2 pm, and the last car at 1pm, due to a private event. *The roadside stand will still be open* AUG.20th we are having a food truck festival, if you wish to enter the food truck festival the entry fee is $5 Come join us for a relaxing stroll through the sunflowers and grab some fun pics in our photo op areas along the way. The U-Pick flower and tomato field will be open for you to pick your own beautiful summer bouquets and tasty tomatoes. Event Series Hillsborough Rotary Fair

Beginning Tuesday, August 16th, the annual Hillsborough Rotary Fair and Business Expo will once again transform the Hillsborough Promenade (315 Route 206) into a classic carnival with a colorful midway, over 20 amusement rides, games of chance, fireworks, food vendors, and an exposition of local businesses. The Hillsborough Rotary Fair will open for five days beginning Tuesday, August 16th. Fair hours are 6 – 10 PM on Tuesday through Thursday and 6 – 11 PM on Friday and Saturday. In addition to the Fair’s classic thrill rides, food vendors, games of chance, and an exposition of local businesses, a spectacular firework display by Interstate Fireworks and sponsored by Petrock’s Bar & Grille and Petrock’s Liquors, will light up Hillsborough skies on Friday evening, August 19th, at approximately 10 PM.
