Stanley Gavidia, June Artist of the Month

This June, Gallery on Main's Artist of the Month series features oil paintings by Bloomfield, New Jersey-based artist Stanley Gavidia. His work will be on view, and available for purchase, from June 1 through 30, 2022. Meet the artist at a free opening reception on Saturday, June 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Before moving to New Jersey, Hugo Stanley Gavidia Tolentino grew up in El Salvador, and he studied visual art at National Art Center of El Salvador (CENAR). He has participated in many collective exhibitions, including at Studio Montclair Inc, Artfront Galleries, Open Doors Newark, Bronx Pre¬ Biennale Art, Queens Museum, and Hamilton Street Gallery, among others. In his artwork Mr. Gavidia communicates knowledge through basic concepts of vitality and universal values. He also attempts to convey insight into the truth through an exaltation of the mind or the soul. Says the artist, “I can't say anything concrete about painting, what happens on the canvas is unpredictable and surprising to me. Each painting suggests something. Once I sense the suggestion, I begin to paint intuitively and when the painting is finished, the subject reveals itself. I leave it to the spectator to fix meaning. It can always be

A museum of Watchung history, facts and artifacts. Investigate the 5 rooms independently or ask our guides for wonderful tales of the past tales from Watchungs (nearly) 100 year history! The Texier House Museum is open the 1st & 3rd Sunday of each month from 2pm to 4pm Located in the center of the Watchung circle with plenty of convenient parking. Admission is FREE. Donations are always greatly appreciated! Exhibit Highlights: * World War I & II items- Operate a preserved hand cranked siren that was meant to warn the residents of Watchung if any Nazi boats had stormed New Jersey shores. * A display on Adella (Tibby) Wotherspoon, the youngest survivor of the General Slocum Disaster of 1904 where 1,021 of the 1,331 passengers died in NY City’s East River. * A copy of the original hand-written diary of Captain William Parlin, who led the first black battalion of soldiers during the Civil War. * Sports Memorabilia from New York Giants legend Bobby Thomson * Artifacts and photos from the Legend of Watchung Pageant * Restored Stained Glass Skylight, artifacts and photos of the Moldenke Castle and much much more!

George Washington Remembers Middlebrook

From Trenton to Princeton, and from Middlebrook to Monmouth to Morristown and more, George Washington spent more of the Revolutionary War in New Jersey than in any other state. For the anniversary of Gen. Washington's departure from winter headquarters at the Wallace House, George Washington returns to remember the Middlebrook Cantonment of 1778-79 and his experience of the American Revolution in New Jersey. Please bring your own lawn chairs or blankets for this outdoors presentation featuring actor-historian David Emerson of History on the Hoof as George Washington. The Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association are dedicated supporters of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites and offer this free presentation to the general public in celebration of 125 years of civic engagement and leadership in the historic preservation of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage beginning with the Revolutionary Memorial Society of New Jersey in 1897.
