Tabletop Letterpress with Len Merlo and Mike Stark

Have you ever fantasized about having a small letterpress in your home? This two day workshop will cover the basics of letterpress printing with antique lead and wood type on a tabletop galley proof press. Students will learn how to hand-set type along with their hand-carved linocut block image. Participants will operate the tabletop press, as well as troubleshoot and clean the press and type. Each participant will come away with a small, one-color edition of prints.

Three Centuries of Music and History @ the Farmstead Arts Center

What events of history and what kinds of music has the 1750 Kennedy Martin Stelle Farmstead possibly been a witness to? In this new concert, sampling music from 18th, 19th, and 20th centuries Anne and Ridley Enslow attempt to answer these questions through song. This is a one hour show with the Enslows appearing in historical costumes with Ridley playing the violin and Anne playing the hammered dulcimer. Before each song, Anne will give a brief but interesting description of the piece and its historical context. Drinking songs, love songs, military recruiting songs, songs of liberty–these are some of the themes they will strike. The audience will also see how musical styles evolved over time, becoming less formal, less classical, and more rhythmic. Tickets available in advance or cash only at the door. The Farmstead Arts Center is a center for fine, practical, and performing arts in Basking Ridge, NJ. The Center operates under the Friends of the Kennedy Martin Stelle Farmstead, a 501c3 organization. This program will be held in the Farmstead's wheelchair accessible main building. Farmstead Arts Center, located at 450 King George Road in Basking Ridge, are pleased to present Anne Enslow (hammered dulcimer) and Ridley Enslow (fiddle) in a new concert sampling "Three Centuries of Music and History at the Farmstead" Sunday, March 1, 2020 at 2:00 pm. Meet the performers and enjoy refreshments after the concert! West-Eastern Divan Ensemble

PROGRAM SCHUBERT, Rondo in A, D. 438 for Violin and String Quartet ATTAHIR, Solo for Violin and String Ensemble MENDELSSOHN, String Octet in E-flat Major, Op. 20 See the West-Eastern Divan Ensemble, led by the orchestra’s concertmaster Michael Barenboim, in their State Theatre debut! This world class ensemble features players from the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra. The orchestra was founded by Daniel Barenboim and Edward Said in 1999 as a workshop for Israeli, Palestinian, and other Arab musicians. Barenboim and Said materialized a hope to replace ignorance with education, knowledge, and understanding; to humanize the other; and to imagine a better future. Though this experiment in coexistence was intended as a one-time event, it quickly evolved into a legendary orchestra.
