In this series of 288 paintings, Mon (Long Valley, NJ) encompasses the entry of new places that are both real and fantasy. They comment and reflect on humanity as individuals and as a whole in current issues involving politics or humanitarianism. Mon also invited other artists to participate by designing Flags for the New Land, which resulted in multitudes of ideas and imagery, and 73 flags, which will also be on view. Musical “They Call it Gravy; WE Call it SAUCE! Final run in NJ! The original musical about Sicilians, Neapolitans and Jewish Businessmen titled, “They Call it Gravy; WE Call it SAUCE!” has scheduled its final three performances in New Jersey on October 11-13 at the Brook Arts Center before it crosses the Hudson. “They Call it Gravy; WE Call it SAUCE!” tells the story of Rosa, a second-generation Sicilian living in New York’s Little Italy with her parents. Her father is a proud Sicilian man who is firmly entrenched in the only “old world” customs he knows and when his unmarried daughter tells him that she’s expecting, he disowns and banishes her. Twenty-something years later, Rosa’s Jewish-raised daughter, Barbara, unaware of her Sicilian heritage, uncovers the family secret and digs-in to discover her roots. New Jersey-born and raised native, Lenny Gatto, is the playwright, composer, executive producer and director of this Perry Award-nominee (Outstanding Original Musical), which has enjoyed sold-out performances at the Strand Center for the Arts in Lakewood, Middletown Arts Center, UCPAC’s Hamilton Stage and the Rosen Performing Arts Center in Wayne. NJ Audubon: Digital Photography Workshop 2 – Composition Led by Phil Witt and David DesRochers, NJ Audubon Associate Naturalists Workshop 2 will focus on composition--that is, capturing the best image. The workshop will be organized around three nature photography principles—light, composition, and moment. You will learn how to use elements of composition such as color, depth of field, lines, patterns, perspective, shapes, space, and texture. The workshop will review examples from a variety of subject types within nature photography, ranging from birds to insects to landscapes. Participants are encouraged to bring examples of their own images on a thumb drive for in-class critique and editing. When Saturday, October 12, 2019 (1:00pm to 3:30pm). It’s baaack…on October 11, 12, 18, 19, 25, 26 & 27, with rain dates of October 13 & October 20. Timed-entry from 6:45 pm to 8:15 pm each night. Returning for the 8th time, Wagner Farm Arboretum’s spectacular Halloween-themed “Brite Nites” event, showcases an elaborate display of intricately & creatively hand-carved and lighted pumpkins, updated this year with LED bulbs, music & special effects. Meander thru many different displays meant to delight old & young alike and see the complex pumpkin sculptures that take volunteers many months to carve. The "Barn of Fear" is a haunted barn professionally designed by Dusk Productions and features updated scenes & special effects to give you that haunted experience. Come early before your timed-entry, grab a bite at the food and dessert trucks and sit down to eat at our food pavilion tent, or stay after your timed-entry to eat and snack. There will be entertainment, hot cocoa, cider and children’s games.
