“Nature and Life” – Photographs by Gina Petrecca on Display at Bernardsville Library

December 2 @ 10:00 am - December 28 @ 5:00 pm
NJ United States + Google Map
Free

Bernardsville Public Library is pleased to present an exhibition of photographs by Springfield resident Gina Petrecca. The show will be on view in the Library's Community Room from December 2 to December 28. Ms. Petrecca has loved photography since she was a child when she became fascinated with preserving memories. She loves taking pictures of still lifes, landscapes, nature, and animals as well as special events, parties, and even events on a normal day. Her inspiration comes from colors, shapes, or anything different, and it changes depending on the situations she finds herself in. "Sometimes an idea pops in my head and I just do it," she says, "I feel every artist is unique and their tastes are different. I can’t fit myself in a category. I just do what I want and enjoy the uniqueness that each moment presents." This exhibition will be on view during regular library hours unless a meeting is in progress. For further information, please call the library at 908-766-0118.

Bernardsville Library’s book group, Saturday Samplers, will meet on Saturday, December 8 at 3:30 pm to discuss "Beloved," the Pulitzer Prize winner for Fiction in 1988, by Toni Morrison. Morrison also won the 1993 Nobel Prize in Literature for being an author "who in novels characterized by visionary force and poetic import, gives life to an essential aspect of American reality." Her novels are known for their epic themes, vivid dialogue, and richly detailed African American characters; among the best known, besides "Beloved," are "The Bluest Eye" and "Song of Solomon." In 2001, she was named one of "The 30 Most Powerful Women in America" by Ladies' Home Journal. "Beloved" tells the story of Sethe, born a slave, who escaped to Ohio, but eighteen years later she is still not truly free. She works at beating back a past, in which many hideous things happened to her, but it makes itself heard and felt incessantly in her memory and in the lives of those around her. This is an unforgettable novel and one of the great and enduing works of American literature.
