NJMorning Walk at Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary Enjoy a quiet morning here at the Sanctuary walking the trails with an NJ Audubon staff or Associate Naturalist. These walks are informal and informative: birds, trees, tracks, wildflowers, reptiles, and amphibians are a few of nature’s wonders waiting for us to discover. The walks are cancelled if there is snow, rain, or weather warnings. Registration required by 4:00 PM the day before the walk. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. One person per ticket. COST: Free for members, $5 nonmembers. IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Please bring binoculars if you have them.
Far Hills Race Meeting
Far Hills Race Meeting The 102nd running of the Far Hills Race Meeting (a.k.a. The Hunt) will take place on Saturday, October 21st, 2023. For more than a century, this annual gathering at Moorland Farm is a highlight of the fall season and attracts thousands of spectators who return, year after year, to watch the world’s finest steeplechases, reconnect with family and friends, network, support worthy causes and make memories to last a lifetime. Don’t miss out – tickets are available to purchase now! A reserved parking space for your car to host a tailgate and watch the races at your dedicated space. A general admission ticket to access the event grounds and a friend’s reserved parking space. A Chairman’s Tent ticket grants you access to an all-inclusive VIP tent with seating at the finish line, an upscale buffet lunch, and an open bar. A Hunt Club ticket grants guests 21+ access to food, drinks, entertainment and a private area along the backstretch. Private tents are also available for corporate or large private parties.

The Fall festival is held weekends only, hours are 11am to 6pm last entry and wagon ride to the event field is 4:30 Will not be open on Columbus Day FYI: The tractor pulled wagon is how you get to our fall festal event field, if you do not wish to take the wagon ride and want to walk, upon admission you must ask a team member to give you a driveway pass , those without passes will not be able to gain access to the driveway. Paper Marbling Experience
Paper Marbling Experience with Keith Garubba Experience the magic of marbling decorative and abstract papers with this easy-to-pick-up introductory workshop to a centuries old practice. Your single session hands-on class will be so much more than a painting party: you'll have the opportunity to follow your curiosity as you experience the spontaneous magic of paper marbling and also learn how to control classic, intricate patterns. You’ll be walked through all the techniques you need to make mesmerizing designs in 16 specially prepared colors of the season. In this workshop you will: • Create 10 marbled papers, 12” x 19”, yours to keep. • Learn 3 basic patterns common in traditional marbling. • Explore spontaneity in freestyle marble designs. • Try Ebru Drawing, a way to make pictures in floated inks. Don’t let the fun stop after your marbling session. Once you’ve taken this workshop, you might wonder what you can do with your stack of marbled papers! Marbling is beautiful on its own, but these papers can also be the perfect touch to amplify your bookmaking or printing projects. Bring your marbled papers to a future session at Frontline Arts and you’ll have a head start on your masterpiece. 1

NJ Audubon: Scary Diabolical Plants Those diabolical plants! From poisonous to causing allergies, this presentation is all about those scary plants. Vote for the scariest! Led by Dorothy Smullen, Teacher/Naturalist Join Dorothy for an illustrated program on plants that are poisonous, spiny, deadly, invasive, or illegal. We will also see plants that trap and eat insects and those that cause allergies. Vote on the scariest for Halloween! This program will be presented in person at Scherman Hoffman Wildlife Sanctuary and via Zoom. Please be sure to purchase the correct ticket. COST: $8 members, $12 nonmembers. Preregistration required. Ticket sales end 10/20 at 4:00 PM.

Hand Build a Gnome or Two with Burnt Mill Potters ANYONE CAN DO IT...really! No artistic skills necessary. (age 10 and older) Hand-build one, two or three gnomes using slabs of clay and sculpture techniques under the watchful guidance of experienced clay artists. Many design ideas are available or bring your own creativity! You will also utilize various decorative techniques, such as underglaze painting, carving and attaching 3D elements. Finished glazed pieces will be available for pick up about 4 weeks later. 5 inch gnomes are $30 each. 7 inch gnomes are $40 each. 9 inch gnomes are $50. Payment will be accepted with Venmo, Zelle or cash the day of the event.

A Murder Is Announced
A Murder Is Announced The Lord Stirling Theater Company will perform the Agatha Christie murder mystery “A Murder Is Announced” in the English Barn Theater at the Farmstead Arts Center, 450 King George Road, Basking Ridge, NJ. “A Murder Is Announced” will open on Friday, October 20, at 7:30PM, with additional performances on October 21 at 7:30PM, October 22 at 2:00PM, October 27 and 28 at 7:30PM, and October 29 at 2:00PM. Tickets are $25 general admission, $23 for seniors (65 and over) and students, $20 for Farmstead Arts members, and $15 for children under 12. Tickets may be purchased online at https://farmsteadartscenter.org or at the door (cash only). Based on Agatha Christie’s 1950 novel of the same name and adapted for the stage in 1977 by Leslie Darbon, “A Murder Is Announced” takes place in the quiet, little village of Chipping Cleghorn, where the residents are astonished to read an advertisement in the local newspaper that gives the date and time a murder will take place at the home of Letitia Blacklock. 12 Angry Jurors is our next exciting production this October, at the People Care Center, 120 Finderne Ave, Bridgewater, NJ. 12 Angry Jurors is a play that contemplates the huge responsibility of 12 ordinary people as they consider the guilt or innocence of a young man accused of murder. The 12 jurors bring their own histories, prejudices, and biases to the jury room as they work through this life-or-death decision.
