Honor African American soldiers of the Civil War on this walk of historic Somerville, visiting the graves of U.S. Colored Troops of the Civil War and following in the footsteps of Prince Rodgers in celebration of the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Army.
Meet at Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites, 71 Somerset Street, Somerville, NJ 08876. Dress for the weather, wear sturdy footgear and bring water and snacks. The walk covers about 3 miles and takes about 1 ½ hours.
The Prince Rodgers African American Museum: 250th Birthday of the U.S. Army shares the story of the military service of the Prince Rodgers family and African Americans of New Jersey in the Armed Forces of the United States Saturday, June 7, 2025, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites, 71 Somerset Street, Somerville, NJ 08876.
Children and adults are invited to color or write cards of appreciation to veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces for delivery to New Jersey Veterans Memorial Homes in honor of the 250th Birthday of the U.S. Army & Armed Forces.
The first Saturday in June is a day to get out on a trail for National Trails Day, an initiative of the American Hiking Society that has been going strong for over thirty years. National Trails Day is a day to enjoy, advocate for, and give back to the trails that connect us to nature, to each other, and to the places where we live, work, play, and go to school. With events scheduled throughout the state each year, National Trails Day brings New Jerseyans together for a variety of trail-related activities, including family-friendly activities, challenge hikes, ribbon cuttings, and maintenance projects.
