Session #2:
Mar 29th, April 5th, 12th

Open to artists of all drawing levels, this class offers a welcoming, light-hearted, yet academic approach to decoding the human figure. Participants will draw from a live nude model in each session and loosen up with quick gestures, then move into several short poses (2 minutes and 5 minutes) as well as longer poses (up to 1 hour in 20-minute segments). Anatomy of the skeletal and muscular systems will be observed to aid in rendering the model’s shapes and emotive expression. Using different drawing implements, successful erasing, and achieving balanced compositions on paper will be addressed. In reference to historical and master drawings, we will discuss accurate measurement for proportions, perspective, framing, and positioning as integral parts of understanding how to capture fleeting moments in space while developing your style quickly. The instructor will provide individual guidance or feedback, and at the end of each session, the participants will show their drawings for constructive feedback in a group setting.

About the Instructor:

Ingrid Marie Harbour is an interdisciplinary artist who enjoys experimenting with different mediums, including drawing, painting, and printmaking. Originally from Seattle, Washington, Ingrid moved East after studying art at the UW, including drawing with notable professors Zhi Lin and Emily Gherard. While living in NYC, Ingrid worked as a teaching artist at the Art Lab at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden, teaching painting to teens and adults, where she participated in the Summer Studio Scholarship Program (SSSP) annually for several summers. The SSSP included a 6-week intensive of figure drawing and oil painting, including plein air on the grounds of historical Snug Harbor in Staten Island. Now based in New Jersey, Ingrid balances life as an artist, producer, and homemaker. She is currently participating in Somerset County’s Open Air / Open Space project as a plein air landscape artist, capturing the natural beauty of local parks.
