December 24, 2022 @ 7:00 pm - 7:30 pm

Every year on December 24th for 99 years at 7pm on “The Town Green”, residents, families, friends, and guests gather in Basking Ridge, New Jersey for less than 20 minutes to sing Christmas carols, wish good tidings, then move on to their personal family traditions. Church bells begin ringing at about 6:45pm. 10 songs are sung and the caroling ends around 7:25pm, again with a round of ringing church bells. The “Christmas Eve Sing” is the oldest continuous Christmas Eve sing in New Jersey.

The event for many is an ongoing family tradition that’s been run each year since 1924 and very little has changed. It is said to have started when a local businessman named Ray Moffet who owned Moffet Motors Chevrolet (formerly Moffet Garage) on Maple Avenue, who drove a group of residents around Basking Ridge on Christmas Eve singing Christmas carols.
