Step into the golden age of cinema at the Brook Arts Center when the Paragon Ragtime Orchestra presents Charlie Chaplin’s The Gold Rush on the big screen with live orchestral accompaniment.
PRO Founder and Conductor Rick Benjamin leads the ensemble in a performance of the film’s original orchestral score, complete with live sound effects, played from the orchestra pit as Chaplin’s beloved 1925 comedy unfolds on the big screen. In the film, Chaplin’s iconic Little Tramp heads to the Klondike in search of fortune, encountering blizzards, hunger, love, and some of the most famous comic sequences ever filmed.
The Paragon Ragtime Orchestra is the world’s only year-round professional ensemble dedicated to re-creating the sounds of early American musical theater, silent cinema, and vintage dance. Since their 1988 debut at Lincoln Center, PRO has performed at the Smithsonian, the Kennedy Center, the Ravinia Festival, and hundreds of leading arts venues worldwide. Their recordings have been heard daily since 1989 as the outdoor music at Main Street, U.S.A. in Disney’s theme parks.
One performance only: Sunday, May 3rd at the Brook Arts Center in Bound Brook, NJ. Theatre organ pre-show at 2:30pm, showtime at 3pm.
