Explore the history and ecology of trees and bees in New Jersey as part of Somerset County’s Weekend Journey Through the Past.

King Trees, a special exhibit inside George Washington’s winter headquarters at the Wallace House, identifies big trees past and present that witnessed the American Revolution in New Jersey. Queen Bees, an indoors and outdoors demonstration, shows off reproduction skeps used for beekeeping in the eighteenth century and the historic craft of making candles from beeswax.

Sunday only at 1pm join the Somerville Environmental Commission for a ceremony of flags, song and poetry as the Borough of Somerville plants a seedling of New Jersey’s historic Salem Oak on the grounds of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites.

Made possible by funds from the Somerset County Cultural & Heritage Commission, a partner of the New Jersey State Council on the Arts and the New Jersey Historical Commission.

The Wallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association are dedicated supporters of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Sites and offer this presentation to the public free of charge 125 years of civic engagement and leadership in the historic preservation of Wallace House & Old Dutch Parsonage beginning with the Revolutionary Memorial Society of New Jersey in 1897.
