“Bursts of Color” – Art by Kathleen Havens to be Shown at Bernardsville Library

Bernardsville Public Library is pleased to announce its June exhibition: "Bursts of Color: Art by Kathleen Havens." Ms. Havens, a resident of Chatham Township, expresses an eclectic conception of her environment in her art as well as her fascination with color, composition, and bold delineation of her subject matter. The artist's reception will be held on Saturday, June 16, 2:00-4:00 pm. Having grown up in Montclair, New Jersey in the 1950's and 60's, Kathleen Goehring Havens began her art training at the Montclair Art Museum and continued her studies while majoring in Occupational Therapy at the University of Pennsylvania. There she learned a variety of artistic techniques and materials to use as therapeutic treatment for her patients. She took courses in art history as well. Havens continued her studies at the Samuel Fleischer Memorial Art School under the tutelage of Max Gottlieb and Philamena Delaripa in the evenings, while working full-time at a rehabilitation center in Philadelphia. Throughout her life she has continued independent study at the New Jersey Center for the Visual Arts (formerly the Summit Arts Center). Herbs are all about flavor and reducing the need for salt. Family & Community Health Sciences (FCHS) invites you to attend its Herbs Add Flavor: Using & Preserving Culinary Herbs Workshop on Wednesday, July 17 at 10 am-12 pm or 6:30 -8:30 pm at the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Office, 310 Milltown Road in Bridgewater. Learn about culinary herbs – how to pair them with food and use them in cooking, also how to preserve by freezing or drying. There will be demonstrations and tastings of pesto, salsa verde, herb sugar and cucumber soup with mint. Bring one stick of butter to make herb butter to bring home! Register by Monday, July 2, 2018. Cost is $15 per person. Light refreshments and food samples included. Pre-registration is required. Space is limited! To register, email lconley@co.somerset.nj.us or register online at goo.gl/KwkGWX.
