Enjoy the Serenity and Smell the Flowers at Our Gardens

We don’t know about you, but wandering around secret gardens full of bursts of colors is one of the most relaxing experiences! Lucky for our residents and visitors, Somerset County has several unique and often little-known garden experiences to explore for throughout the seasons. Take a stroll among the leaves at one of our arboretums, peek late season blooms in our rose or ornamental gardens, or escape reality for a while in our snow-covered rock garden.

Hidden Spring Lavender Farm and Alpacas

We love the light fragrance and the softness of lavender. It’s easy to see why people fall in love with Hidden Spring Lavender Farm and Alpacas. If you love seeing lavender, you also have to check out the alpacas on site – you can even book time to walk them around the property!

Leonard J. Buck Garden – Far Hills

Somerset County’s renowned rock garden, the Leonard J. Buck Garden is currently open to the public for exploration. Current Hours and What’s In Bloom.

Peony’s Envy

During Peak Bloom, admission will be $20 per person including children of all ages. Plants and products are available for purchase at the gardens via cash or credit card.

Colonial Park

Rudolf W. Van der Goot Rose Garden

Somerset County’s renowned Van der Goot Rose Garden at Colonial Park Hours is open to the public.

Perennial Garden

Adjacent to the Rose Garden is Colonial Park’s Perennial Garden. This garden is open year round, but spring is one of our favorite times to visit with so many daffodils, lilacs, daphnes, and pinks. Later on in the summer you’ll see irises, peonies, roses, lilies, and coreopsis blooming amongst the shrubs.

When we mentioned a secret garden above, Cross Estate is what we had in mind. Gorgeous wisteria fall from these pergolas in late April-early May, quickly followed by bursts of purple from the mountain laurel in late May that marks the entryway into the gardens. Truly a hidden gem in Somerset County. And don’t forget to visit year-round! These gardens are maintained and planted with blooms popping up throughout the warmer months.

Duke Farms trails remain open for the season. Current hours are Tuesday-Saturday from 8:30am-4:30pm. See the most current hours of operation and all other updates, see their website here.

Norz Hill Farm & Market

Coming later this summer Norz Hill Farm & Market in Hillsborough will be having their sunflower field! Plan to see plenty of photo opportunities among the pops of yellow sunflowers. Stop by their market to pick up fresh meats and produce.
