The course was dedicated to the memory of all New Jersey golfers who gave their lives in World War II, and is named in honor of  two New Jersey Professional Golfers, Lt.

Designed in the typical layout for private clubs in the 1950s and early 1960s, the Mattawang Golf Club is a challenging venue with fairways that are quite tight despite their appearance as wide and open. Most of the greens are small, and protected by sand traps, having gained a reputation as among the best maintained putting surfaces in the state.
