Garden State Art Weekend: Vasant – A Spring Mosaic by Indian Artists
As part of the Garden State Art Weekend's second annual state-wide celebration of New Jersey's diverse and vibrant arts scene, Bridgewater Commons will host the work of 21 artists from the South Asian Artists Association of America (S4A). 'Vasant' means springtime in Sanskrit (the ancient classical language of India) and symbolizes happiness, new beginnings, hope, and prosperity. Come celebrate the arrival of the season through a mosaic of authentic and inspiring art at the Community Hub. The space will be transformed into a lively, vibrant, open, and elegant gallery and cultural venue for three days. S4A is a collective of artists with roots in South Asia now living in the U.S., who work in a wide variety of media including photography, painting, ceramics, sculpture, drawing, and more. They draw inspiration from their South Asian heritage and modern cross-cultural life experiences, exhibiting together to promote and share their work with the public at large. Free and open to all, guests will meet the artists and learn about their approaches, experiences, and inspirations. Families can also partake in art activities and workshops. Check back here for a schedule of activities. Artwork by the artists will also be for sale. Bird-a-Thon
Raritan Headwaters is excited to bring back our annual Bird-a-Thon! Our bird watching team – the Watershed Warblers – will be out from dawn to dusk identifying species of birds throughout the Upper Raritan watershed region! This year the Watershed Warblers will be split into three mini-teams: The Adult Team will visit public access areas in the watershed that are home to threatened and endangered species. The Kids Team will visit areas of the watershed that provide fun, safe access to nature for young people. The Accessible Team will visit areas of the watershed that have wheelchair-accessible trails, sit spots, and observation areas suitable for people with disabilities. Email Lauren to learn more about joining one of our teams! Raritan Headwaters works to protect and preserve critical watershed habitat for New Jersey’s native and migratory bird species. By protecting clean water in our streams and rivers, restoring climate resilient habitats and educating residents, we are working to protect precious natural resources and native wildlife populations from further decline. With your support, we can sustain this important conservation work into the future! Our Director of Education, Lauren Theis, is excited to be a Birdability Captain.
