SUMMARY:Middlebrook Five Generals Bus Tour *NEW DATE*
DESCRIPTION:A signature event offered by the Heritage Trail Association. \nMultiple tours are offered\, plan on 3 hours for each tour as the bus stops briefly at all 5 historic sites for a quick side tour. The tour itself happens on the bus as we travel the area where the Continental and British Armies traveled in the winter of 1778-79. (After the first stop\, guests ask for longer tours!). Experience and touch the places where George and Martha Washington lived\, Where Baron Von Stuben helped create an army out of farmers. Where West Point began\, where George Washington danced for hours\, and where the beacon alert system and other issues were discussed and solutions were created. All these places are right here in our own backyards and make up this tour. \nCovering the Middlebrook Cantonment\, a somewhat mild winter in between Valley Forge and Jockey Hollow\, the bus travels roads used by the soldiers during this winter\, much was accomplished and planned that aided in the success of the war. \nMiddlebrook\, far from the overlooked winter that historians have ignored in the past\, its importance to the overall outcome of the war is now seen and the story now being told in multiple books and the Middlebrook Symposia being offered now until the 2026 semiquincentennial of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. SUMMARY:Could You Have Done It? The Women Who Carried the Revolution A Franklin 250 Women’s History Month Living History Experience
DESCRIPTION:The Franklin 250 Committee invites the community to experience history in a hands-on and engaging way at “Could You Have Done It? The Women Who Carried the Revolution.” This special Women’s History Month living history event will take place Saturday\, March 28\, 2026\, from 1:00–4:00 p.m. at the Franklin Township Middle School- SGS Campus\, 1649 Amwell Road\, Somerset. Admission is free and open to all ages. \nThis event will highlight the essential and often overlooked roles women played during the American Revolution. Through demonstrations\, storytelling\, and interactive activities\, visitors will gain a deeper understanding of the skills\, strength\, and determination required of women who supported their families\, communities\, and the Revolutionary cause. \nStories of Revolutionary Women\nVisitors can explore a Bio Walk of Revolutionary Women\, featuring the stories of remarkable women from the Revolutionary era. As guests discover the challenges and sacrifices these women faced\, they will be invited to reflect on the event’s central question:\nCould you have done it? \nLiving History Demonstrations\nThroughout the event\, living historians will demonstrate traditional skills that were essential to everyday life in the 18th century\, including: \nWool carding and flax processing \nSewing and clothing repair \nButter making \nBeeswax candle rolling \nThese demonstrations reveal the daily labor that kept households and military camps functioning during the Revolutionary War. \nWomen of the Revolutionary World\nThe program will also highlight the diverse experiences of women during the Revolutionary era\, including: \nIndigenous women and their role in community life \nCamp followers of the Continental Army who provided cooking\, laundry\, nursing\, and other vital support to soldiers \nColonial Traditions\nGuests can also experience some of the social traditions of the time\, including: \nTea tasting and hot chocolate \nCreating your own custom tea blend \nMusic and simple colonial dance \nHands-On Activities for Kids\nYoung historians will have plenty to explore with interactive activities such as: \nQuill writing \nColonial games and crafts \nFranklin 250 Community Quilt\nVisitors will also have the opportunity to help create a piece of Franklin’s history by decorating a quilt square for the Franklin 250 Community Quilt.
