SUMMARY:Exploring Drypoint: From Drawing to Print
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, March 8th\, 15th . 11 AM – 4 PM \nExplore repeatable printmaking at its easiest\, most accessible form. This workshop will teach you these ins and outs of non-chemical intaglio printmaking—a centuries-old technique for translating drawings and marks into a repeatable edition of prints. Using simple skills\, artists will have the opportunity to discover the ease of quick and easy intaglio printing. Along the way\, artists may learn about basic viscosity printing\, chine colle and exploratory inking techniques. No experience necessary; beginners are encouraged! Enrolled artists will be emailed a small list of items and images to provide closer to the start of this workshop. \nStudents provide: \n– 5×7” source images\, printed or drawn in grayscale with full tonal range (including darks\, midtones\, and highlights).\n– A selection of scratching tools such as needles\, knives\, screws/nails\, and sandpaper/files. Many tools will be provided by the instructor\, so please do not purchase anything you do not already have.\n– An apron\n– An extra fine Sharpie\n– A roll of paper towels\n– A pencil\n– A notebook or sketchbook \nSeparately\, Frontline Arts will provide drypoint intaglio materials\, paid by the materials fee. \nAbout the Instructor: \nDave DiMarchi is a queer\, multi-disciplinary artist working in printmaking\, papermaking and sculptural book forms. Nurturing ideas into singular and editioned works\, he engages in a relentless material practice. As a multi-disciplinary artist\, he has exhibited works on paper\, installations and books in the US and internationally. In autumn of 2022\, he was announced as the Arts Council of Princeton’s Anne Reeves Artist-in-Residence\, through which he developed a practice of collage-based multimedia and print works. He also serves as the Arts Council’s Printmaking Studios Manager and Master Printer\, and is Instructor of Printmaking at Mercer College. For nearly 15 years\, he has created his own work\, curated exhibitions\, provided print exchange opportunities\, and published fine art prints as 9INHANDPRESS\, a fine art printmaking and education studio located in New Hope\, Pennsylvania. \nRegistration deadline: Sunday\, March 2nd\, at midnight \nLocation: 440 River Road\, Branchburg\, NJ 08876. SUMMARY:Somerville St Patrick's Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:The first St. Patrick’s Day Parade on record in Somerville was held in 1984. It began at Duke Island Park and traveled to downtown Somerville. The parade remained like this for several years until the organization could no longer continue. The original parade had co-grand marshals: Tom Lavin\, the founder of the local division of the AOH and Msgr. John Torney the pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bernardsville. \nIn 1991 a new committee formed and held its first parade the following year. Its new route began and commenced on Main Street in Somerville\, making it much more appealing to both bands and spectators. Over the years\, many people have helped coordinate the parade. To view the current parade committee and some significant past contributors click here. Each year the parade committee elects a person to be the Grand Marshal of the Somerville Saint Patrick’s Parade. This honor is awarded to a member of the community that has had a significant positive social impact on the community as a whole\, and who exhibits a good representation of Christian values. To see a list of the distinguished individuals who have been honored click here. \nThe committee is entirely made up of volunteers who dedicate numerous hours during the year in order to keep the parade operating for future years. We are always in search of enthusiastic hard-working volunteers to serve on the committee or assist with operations on Parade Day. \nIn recent years\, the parade committee has obtained key corporate sponsors which have allowed our organization to expand the number of paid entertainment participation. In 2010\, given the difficulties seen throughout the state at other parades\, the Somerville Parade Committee adopted a motto which sums up our expectations for the parade\, participants and spectators; The Somerville Parade is a free family friendly event. This motto guides our decisions and allows our sponsors to know that they are participating in something positive for the community. Each year\, we strive to improve the parade for our spectators\, participants and sponsors.
