SUMMARY:AVN Rummage Sale
DESCRIPTION:A Somerset County Treasure: The Atlantic Visiting Nurse Rummage Sale \nFor more than a century\, the rolling fields of the Far Hills Fairgrounds in Far Hills\, New Jersey have hosted one of the state’s most cherished community traditions: the Atlantic Visiting Nurse Rummage Sale. Held twice each year in spring and fall\, this beloved event draws thousands of bargain hunters\, collectors\, and neighbors from across New Jersey and beyond — all united by a shared spirit of community and generosity. \nHumble Beginnings and a Legacy of Service \nRummage (as those in the know call it) traces its origins back to 1923\, when volunteers at the Visiting Nurse Association of Somerset Hills organized a simple fundraising sale at the Far Hills Fairgrounds to support home health services. What started with just a few tables has grown into New Jersey’s oldest and largest rummage sale\, a cornerstone event in Somerset County’s calendar. \nFrom the very beginning\, the goal of Rummage has been to support quality health care at home and in the community\, helping older adults\, individuals recovering from illness or surgery\, and those living with chronic conditions remain where they are most comfortable: in their own homes. That mission continues today under the banner of Atlantic Visiting Nurse. Proceeds from the sale directly support home health and hospice care\, the Atlantic Adult Day Center in Basking Ridge\, and complimentary grief support services. \nA Seasoned Tradition with Something for Everyone \nTwice each year\, volunteers transform the Far Hills Fairgrounds into a sprawling marketplace spanning nearly two acres and two dozen departments. More than 400+ volunteers\, from long-time residents to newcomers eager to pitch in\, sort\, price\, and display donations that range from clothing\, furniture\, books\, and jewelry to antiques\, home goods\, electronics\, toys\, holiday decorations\, and more. \nShoppers arrive early and often stay all day\, eager to explore the vast selection of items and maybe uncover a hidden gem. Over the years\, remarkable finds\, from vintage furniture to original artwork\, have helped build the sale’s reputation as a must-visit destination for treasure seekers and nostalgic collectors alike. \nA Community Celebration \nWhat truly sets the Atlantic Visiting Nurse Rummage Sale apart is its sense of community. Generations of volunteers and visitors return year after year\, not just to shop\, but to connect with neighbors and take part in a shared tradition that celebrates Somerset County’s generous spirit. Local leaders have recognized the sale’s impact: in 2023\, the Borough of Far Hills unveiled a commemorative plaque at the fairgrounds honoring the event’s century-long legacy of service and partnership. \nLooking Ahead \nAs the Atlantic Visiting Nurse Rummage Sale moves into its second century\, it remains much more than a fundraiser. It is a living testament to the power of community. Whether you’re visiting for the first time or returning as a longtime supporter\, the sale offers a chance to honor the past\, support the present\, and strengthen the bonds that make Somerset County a vibrant place to live and visit.

SUMMARY:Meredith Wilson's The Music Man
DESCRIPTION:There’s trouble in River City when a fast-talking salesman gets his heart stolen by the town librarian. Meredith Willson’s six-time\, Tony® Award-winning musical comedy The Music Man follows fast-talking traveling salesman\, Harold Hill\, as he cons the people of River City\, Iowa\, into buying instruments and uniforms for a boys’ band that he vows to organize—this\, despite the fact that he doesn’t know a trombone from a treble clef. Featuring songs such as “Seventy-Six Trombones\,” “Trouble\,” “‘Til There Was You\,” “Pickalittle\,” and “Gary\, Indiana\,” The Music Man is a family-friendly story to be shared with every generation.

SUMMARY:2026 World Series of Birding
DESCRIPTION:At midnight\, on May 19\, 1984\, 13 teams set out on a 24-hour treasure hunt. Their mission: To tally as many different species of birds by sight or sound. Their objective: To raise money for their favorite environmental cause\, and to focus attention on the habitat needs of migrating birds. \nThey succeeded beyond anyone’s dreams and in 2026\, we hope to see over 90 teams and participants vie for glory and their share of the excitement in North America’s most spirited conservation fundraising event\, the Annual WORLD SERIES OF BIRDING. \nJoin in on the fun while raising money and awareness for bird and habitat conservation. \nWHY? \nThe World Series of Birding is a “competitive” big day. But just like a marathon\, the accent is on participating\, not winning. There are many benefits to participants\, teams and sponsors. Here are just a handful: \n\nIt draws attention to the habitat needs of migrating birds\nIt provides birders a chance to test and use their skills for a great cause\nIt provides a forum for interaction between birders\, conservation organization representatives and businesses that cater to the birding market\nIt generates hundreds of thousands of dollars for a number of worthy conservation organizations\nIt focuses national attention on the challenge and adventure of birding\nIt’s FUN!\n\nWSB Awards Brunch \nCelebrate the 43rd Annual World Series of Birding at the Awards Brunch on Sunday morning\, May 10th. Doors open at 9 am for a hot breakfast buffet and lively conversation with your fellow WSB participants. Remarks begin at 10:00 am sharp. Awards are presented to the teams with the most species in the Youth Division and the Level I Bird Conservation Challenge and teams take the mic to tell a story about their day. After the awards\, we pass the mic so a representative from every team at the brunch has a chance to share a highlight of the day. It’s the culmination of months of preparation and great birding\, so come and join the fun! \nOfficial WSB T-Shirt \nEvery year\, the World Series of Birding creates a custom t-shirt. The bold 2026 design will adorn the front of the t-shirt and the names of all the teams registered by April 25th are printed on the back\, along with our major sponsors. T-shirts are high-quality 100% cotton and are available in youth and adult sizes.
