SUMMARY:Bird-a-Thon
DESCRIPTION:Raritan Headwaters is excited to bring back our annual Bird-a-Thon! Our bird watching team – the Watershed Warblers – will be out from dawn to dusk identifying species of birds throughout the Upper Raritan watershed region! \nThis year the Watershed Warblers will be split into three mini-teams: \n \n  \nThe Adult Team will visit public access areas in the watershed that are home to threatened and endangered species. \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \nThe Kids Team will visit areas of the watershed that provide fun\, safe access to nature for young people. \n  \n  \n  \n \n  \nThe Accessible Team will visit areas of the watershed that have wheelchair-accessible trails\, sit spots\, and observation areas suitable for people with disabilities. \n  \n  \nEmail Lauren to learn more about joining one of our teams! \nRaritan Headwaters works to protect and preserve critical watershed habitat for New Jersey’s native and migratory bird species. By protecting clean water in our streams and rivers\, restoring climate resilient habitats and educating residents\, we are working to protect precious natural resources and native wildlife populations from further decline. With your support\, we can sustain this important conservation work into the future! \nOur Director of Education\, Lauren Theis\, is excited to be a Birdability Captain. Birdability is a national group working to ensure the birding community and the outdoors are welcoming\, inclusive\, safe and accessible for everybody through education\, outreach and advocacy. \nYou can support our Bird-a-Thon teams by making a flat donation or by making a pledge for each bird species we identify! Pledge anywhere from 50 cents or more per bird species we find during the event on May 3rd. Our goal is to identify 110 bird species! Your support will motivate our birders throughout the long day and will raise funds for RHA’s work to protect the critical habitats that are so important to the survival of our fine-feathered friends.

SUMMARY:Niall Connolly live in the Barn
DESCRIPTION:Born in the final hours of 1977 in the suburbs of Cork\, Ireland\, Niall Connolly was raised on a soundtrack that shaped his storytelling soul—Nirvana on the Walkman\, Leonard Cohen on his sister’s stereo\, and the vibrant voices of Cork’s 1990s music scene. Later came snippets of New York street conversations\, tales of woe on the radio\, and the hum of highways across Europe. Every experience finds its way into Connolly’s music\, woven into melodies that unfold like stories—layer by layer\, listen by listen. In the studio\, he builds rich harmonies. On stage\, he delivers a mix of electricity\, sincerity\, and humor that captivates audiences worldwide. \nNiall played to an appreciative – and packed – music room inside the Ross Farm house last winter\, so we are thrilled to be able to welcome a larger audience inside the barn on Sunday\, May 4 for an unforgettable afternoon of music and storytelling. Seating inside the barn is limited and provided. Early May afternoons can be chilly\, so extra layers are recommended. The barn doors open at 1:30 p.m.\, and the music begins at 2 p.m. Rain or shine—no refunds.

SUMMARY:2025 World Series of Birding
DESCRIPTION:At midnight\, on May 19\, 1984\, 13 teams set out on a 24-hour treasure hunt. Their mission: To tally as many different species of birds by sight or sound. Their objective: To raise money for their favorite environmental cause\, and to focus attention on the habitat needs of migrating birds. \nThey succeeded beyond anyone’s dreams and in 2025\, we hope to see over 90 teams and participants vie for glory and their share of the excitement in North America’s most spirited conservation fundraising event\, the Annual WORLD SERIES OF BIRDING. \nJoin in on the fun while raising money and awareness for bird and habitat conservation. \nWHY? \nThe World Series of Birding is a “competitive” big day. But just like a marathon\, the accent is on participating\, not winning. There are many benefits to participants\, teams and sponsors. Here are just a handful: \n\nIt draws attention to the habitat needs of migrating birds\nIt provides birders a chance to test and use their skills for a great cause\nIt provides a forum for interaction between birders\, conservation organization representatives and businesses that cater to the birding market\nIt generates hundreds of thousands of dollars for a number of worthy conservation organizations\nIt focuses national attention on the challenge and adventure of birding\nIt’s FUN!\n\nWSB Awards Brunch \nCelebrate the 42nd Annual World Series of Birding at the Awards Brunch on Sunday morning. Doors open at 9 am for a hot breakfast buffet and lively conversation with your fellow WSB participants. Remarks begin at 10:00 am sharp. Awards are presented to the teams with the most species in the Zeiss Youth Division and the Level I Bird Conservation Challenge and teams take the mic to tell a story about their day. After the awards\, we pass the mic so a representative from every team at the brunch has a chance to share a highlight of the day. It’s the culmination of months of preparation and great birding\, so come and join the fun! \nOfficial WSB T-Shirt \nEvery year\, the World Series of Birding creates a custom t-shirt featuring an artist with ties to the event. This year’s beautiful work is by Jack McDonough\, whom you may recognize if you visit the Cape May Springwatch or observe a monarch tagging demonstration by the Cape May Monitoring Project in the fall. The artwork adorns the front of the t-shirt and the names of all the teams registered by April 14th are printed on the back\, along with our major sponsors. T-shirts are high-quality 100% cotton and are available in youth and adult sizes.
