DESCRIPTION:Saturdays\, 9 AM – 12 PM \nSession #2:\nMar 29th\, April 5th\, 12th \nOpen to artists of all drawing levels\, this class offers a welcoming\, light-hearted\, yet academic approach to decoding the human figure. Participants will draw from a live nude model in each session and loosen up with quick gestures\, then move into several short poses (2 minutes and 5 minutes) as well as longer poses (up to 1 hour in 20-minute segments). Anatomy of the skeletal and muscular systems will be observed to aid in rendering the model’s shapes and emotive expression. Using different drawing implements\, successful erasing\, and achieving balanced compositions on paper will be addressed. In reference to historical and master drawings\, we will discuss accurate measurement for proportions\, perspective\, framing\, and positioning as integral parts of understanding how to capture fleeting moments in space while developing your style quickly. The instructor will provide individual guidance or feedback\, and at the end of each session\, the participants will show their drawings for constructive feedback in a group setting. \nStudents provide: \nLarge drawing board\nPad of 18”x24” Newsprint Paper\nPad of 18”x24” Drawing Paper\nVine Charcoal\nDrawing pencils (HB\, 2B\, 6B\, F)\nRubber kneaded eraser\nRubber eraser\nBlending stump\nRetractable eraser*\nChamois cloth*\n*Optional \nAbout the Instructor: \nIngrid Marie Harbour is an interdisciplinary artist who enjoys experimenting with different mediums\, including drawing\, painting\, and printmaking. Originally from Seattle\, Washington\, Ingrid moved East after studying art at the UW\, including drawing with notable professors Zhi Lin and Emily Gherard. While living in NYC\, Ingrid worked as a teaching artist at the Art Lab at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden\, teaching painting to teens and adults\, where she participated in the Summer Studio Scholarship Program (SSSP) annually for several summers. The SSSP included a 6-week intensive of figure drawing and oil painting\, including plein air on the grounds of historical Snug Harbor in Staten Island. Now based in New Jersey\, Ingrid balances life as an artist\, producer\, and homemaker. She is currently participating in Somerset County’s Open Air / Open Space project as a plein air landscape artist\, capturing the natural beauty of local parks. \nADA Notice: This specific course will be held in a room that is not ADA accessible. However\, we have raised part of the funds to make it accessible in the future. \nRegistration deadline: Saturday\, Mar. 22nd at midnight. \nLocation: 440 River Road\, Branchburg\, NJ 08876. SUMMARY:Irma Horowitz Film Series - Auction
DESCRIPTION:Get ready for a night where cinema meets community spirit at the Irma Horowitz Film Series at the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum JCC! Join fellow film lovers for an unforgettable evening celebrating award-winning Jewish and Israeli cinema\, lively conversation\, and a lively auction that brings our community together. \nThe Irma Horowitz Film Series spotlights thought-provoking films that spark curiosity\, connection\, and meaningful discussion\, all while honoring the legacy of Irma Horowitz’s passion for storytelling and culture. \nWhether you’re here for the film\, the fun\, or the community\, this event has something magical for everyone. \nDinner at 6:30 PM\nFilm begins at 7:00 PM \nFilm Synopsis: Auction\nWhen star Parisian?auctioneer André (Alex Lutz) learns that a long-lost Egon Schiele painting has turned up in the home of a young worker in a small town\, he?pays a visit and verifies its authenticity… as well as its iniquitous wartime provenance. A race to navigate the thorny world of art buyers and dealers collides with a triangle of players including André’s plucky\, mendacious intern\, his savvy ex-wife / art appraiser (Léa Drucker)\, and the young man swept up by the talons of history who’s been housing the painting—before?putting it up at a suspenseful auction. Bonitzer—screenwriter for André Téchiné\, Jacques Rivette\, Raúl Ruiz\, Raoul Peck\, and others—gamely skewers the absurdities of the art market while converging personal\, historical\, and moral questions with welcome optimism. \nIf you have any questions\, please contact Lisa Kopman\, Adult Program Director: LKopman@ssbjcc.org.
