SUMMARY:On the Lookout for Lafayette: Tracing Travels & Tours through New Jersey
DESCRIPTION:The Marquis de Lafayette\, on mission for George Washington at the Court of Versailles\, did not join Gen. Washington’s winter headquarters at Wallace House for the Continental Army’s Middlebrook Cantonment of 1778-79\, but Lafayette’s legacy loomed so large that a century after Lafayette’s Farewell Tour of the United States the Revolutionary Memorial Society furnished a “Gen. La Fayette Room” at the future Wallace House State Historic Site. \nPaul Larson of American Friends of Lafayette introduces the life and legacy of Lafayette in the United States and France\, tracing Lafayette’s travels in New Jersey as volunteer to George Washington in the Revolutionary War and as the Nation’s Guest on his Farewell Tour of 1824-25. \nSaturday\, March 2\, 2024\, 2:30 p.m.\nWallace House and Old Dutch Parsonage Association\nSt. John’s Episcopal Church Parish Hall\, 158 West High Street\, Somerville\, NJ 08876

SUMMARY:Deni Bonet & Chris Flynn at Watchung Arts Center
DESCRIPTION:Deni Bonet & Chris Flynn at Watchung Arts Center\n“The whole is greater than the sum of the parts”. So it is with Deni Bonet & Chris Flynn. As individual artists\, they have more than made their mark in music. As a duo\, they have created something extra\, engaging and extremely entertaining. Bonet’s voice and violin\, and Flynn’s guitar and voice\, have echoed through the United Nations and the White House\, Carnegie Hall\, Lincoln Center and Mountain Stage. They have shared stages with REM\, Cyndi Lauper\, Warren Zevon\, Sarah McLachlan\, and many others. Their audiences have ranged from festivalgoers\, to Presidents and the FBI.\n\nThey’ve performed their original music as soloists with several full symphony orchestras. For the last five years\, they have melded that skill\, experience and musicality on stages across Europe and America\, from festivals to house concerts\, libraries to radio stations. Their lively and humorous shows are full of self-penned songs and instrumentals\, and the warm banter of two people completely at one on the stage.

SUMMARY:Ryan Radice: A Nest of American Hornets: New Jersey’s Forage War of 1777
DESCRIPTION:Ryan Radice: A Nest of American Hornets: New Jersey’s Forage War of 1777\nLearn the fascinating story of local history during the American Revolution … Join at the Abraham Staats House for a talk by historian Ryan Radice: “A Nest of American Hornets: New Jersey’s Forage War of 1777” \nSat.\, March 9\, 2024      * 2:30PM ~ 5PM *      In person & via Zoom \n$10 pp w advance reservation/$15 at door \nWhile 18th century armies typically ceased fighting during the winter\, that would not be the case in New Jersey during the winter of 1777. Instead\, following Washington’s victories at Trenton and Princeton\, a violent “petit guerre” characterized by foraging raids\, skirmishing\, and guerilla-style warfare was waged on the plain below the Watchung mountains. \nMr. Radice will examine this period\, known as the “Forage War\,” through the personal experiences of Continentals\, Militia\, British and Hessian soldiers\, as well as civilians. From these primary sources we can understand how the Crown went from chasing Washington out of New Jersey at the end of 1776\, to being driven out of the state themselves only six months later. \n“A Map containing part of the Provinces of New York and New Jersey\, 1781” Library of Congress\, Geography and Map Division. \n  \n  \nReserve your tickets now! Light refreshments offered.   Admission: In person & via Zoom $10 pp w adv. reservation/$15 at door    EventBrite at www.staatshouse.org     By Phone: 732-369-3583   House opens: 2:30PM for seating; presentation at 3PM.
