Artists will create a suite of nearly a dozen book forms\, learning the skills needed to bring bookmaking into their artmaking practice. Ample handouts\, directions and resources will be provided for you to continue this artform long after the workshop! This intensive workshop is beginner-friendly\, but all skill levels are encouraged! \nStudents provide: \nA handful of decorative paper sheets\, 18×24”; a more detailed description of paper requirements will be sent via email prior to the workshop Any bookmaking tools you have: bone folder\, awl\, 12-18” ruler\, cutting mat\, Exacto knife. The instructor will also provide these items\, you do not need to purchase them if you do not already own them. Roll of Paper Towels\, Pencil and notebook/sketchbook \nAbout the Instructor: \nDave DiMarchi is a queer\, multi-disciplinary artist working in printmaking\, papermaking and sculptural book forms. Nurturing ideas into singular and editioned works\, he engages in a relentless material practice. As a multi-disciplinary artist\, he has exhibited works on paper\, installations and books in the US and internationally. In autumn of 2022\, he was announced as the Arts Council of Princeton’s Anne Reeves Artist-in-Residence\, through which he developed a practice of collage-based multimedia and print works. He also serves as the Arts Council’s Printmaking Studios Manager and Master Printer\, and is Instructor of Printmaking at Mercer College. Students will leave with three to four complete short form stories by the end of the class and a greater awareness of how stories are structured and what makes them work. \nStudents provide: \n– Notebook/sketchbook\n– Pencils\n– Micron Pens\n– Colored Markers (optional)\n– The Writer’s Journey by Christopher Vogler (suggested but optional) \nAbout the Instructor: \nGene Kim is a Korean-American storyboard artist who has worked on shows for Netflix\, Amazon Studios\, Angel Studios\, HBO Max and more. He was previously a CG artist at Disney’s Blue Sky Studios (Ice Age\, Rio) and a CG intern at Pixar Animation Studios before then. His own award-winning original animated and live action work has played internationally on the film festival circuit. SUMMARY:Kids’ Creative Collective (ages 7-12) - Session #2
DESCRIPTION:Tuesdays\, 4:30 PM – 7:30 PM \nSession #2:\nMarch 11th\, 18th\, 25th \nAdults\, bring your creative kid to try different techniques and make various prints together! We will explore mono-printing with foam and gel plates\, collagraph-making\, stamp-making\, puzzle linocuts\, and open work time. Attending parent or guardian participation is required for each child. Each session will feature a different method of layering water-based ink or acrylic paint to create a print that follows a socially aware prompt. Then\, each pair (kid + adult) will decide what image to make using the technique explored that day. At the end of the allotted time\, the group will take turns sharing their final print\, explaining why they chose it and what they learned. \nPrice details: \nThe ticket price pays for the child/adult pair and the materials provided by Frontline Arts. \nStudents provide: \nSketchbook for ideas\nFavorite mark-making supplies\nPhotographs or magazines \nAbout the Instructor: \nIngrid Marie Harbour is an interdisciplinary artist who enjoys experimenting with different mediums\, including drawing\, painting\, and printmaking. Originally from Seattle\, Washington\, Ingrid moved East after studying art at the UW\, including drawing with notable professors Zhi Lin and Emily Gherard. While living in NYC\, Ingrid worked as a teaching artist at the Art Lab at Snug Harbor Cultural Center and Botanical Garden\, teaching painting to teens and adults\, where she participated in the Summer Studio Scholarship Program (SSSP) annually for several summers. The SSSP included a 6-week intensive of figure drawing and oil painting\, including plein air on the grounds of historical Snug Harbor in Staten Island. Now based in New Jersey\, Ingrid balances life as an artist\, producer\, and homemaker. SUMMARY:Somerville St Patrick's Day Parade
DESCRIPTION:The first St. Patrick’s Day Parade on record in Somerville was held in 1984. It began at Duke Island Park and traveled to downtown Somerville. The parade remained like this for several years until the organization could no longer continue. The original parade had co-grand marshals: Tom Lavin\, the founder of the local division of the AOH and Msgr. John Torney the pastor of Our Lady of Perpetual Help in Bernardsville. \nIn 1991 a new committee formed and held its first parade the following year. Its new route began and commenced on Main Street in Somerville\, making it much more appealing to both bands and spectators. Over the years\, many people have helped coordinate the parade. To view the current parade committee and some significant past contributors click here. Each year the parade committee elects a person to be the Grand Marshal of the Somerville Saint Patrick’s Parade. This honor is awarded to a member of the community that has had a significant positive social impact on the community as a whole\, and who exhibits a good representation of Christian values. To see a list of the distinguished individuals who have been honored click here. \nThe committee is entirely made up of volunteers who dedicate numerous hours during the year in order to keep the parade operating for future years. We are always in search of enthusiastic hard-working volunteers to serve on the committee or assist with operations on Parade Day. \nIn recent years\, the parade committee has obtained key corporate sponsors which have allowed our organization to expand the number of paid entertainment participation. In 2010\, given the difficulties seen throughout the state at other parades\, the Somerville Parade Committee adopted a motto which sums up our expectations for the parade\, participants and spectators; The Somerville Parade is a free family friendly event. This motto guides our decisions and allows our sponsors to know that they are participating in something positive for the community. Each year\, we strive to improve the parade for our spectators\, participants and sponsors.
