Comic Book Art: Crafting Stories
Comic Book Art: Crafting Stories Tuesdays, 5:30 - 8:00 PM Four classes: March 4th, 11th, 18th, and April 1st. Ages: Adults This class will explore the principles of narrative storytelling and visually interpreting them in comic book form. Students will leave with three to four complete short form stories by the end of the class and a greater awareness of how stories are structured and what makes them work. Students provide: Notebook/sketchbook Pencils Micron Pens Colored Markers (optional) The Writer’s Journey by Christopher Vogler (suggested but optional) About the Instructor: Gene Kim is a Korean-American storyboard artist who has worked on shows for Netflix, Amazon Studios, Angel Studios, HBO Max and more. He was previously a CG artist at Disney’s Blue Sky Studios (Ice Age, Rio) and a CG intern at Pixar Animation Studios before then. His own award-winning original animated and live action work has played internationally on the film festival circuit. Lions, Lambs, and other Beasts: Clay Animal Workshop Come join us for a fun clay animal workshop at Fairview Farm Wildlife Preserve in Bedminster, NJ! Let your imagination run wild as you sculpt small hand-built animals out of clay under the guidance of local artist Julie Goetz. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced artist, this workshop is perfect for anyone who loves animals and art, and would like a few hours of fun creativity! All supplies will be provided! Quick Books & Zines: Intensive Bookmaking Workshop
Saturday, March 22nd, 10am-4pm Dip your toes into the world of bookmaking in this non-exhaustive workshop exploring binding basics, cut-and-fold books and zines, and adhesive and stitched structures. Artists will create a suite of nearly a dozen book forms, learning the skills needed to bring bookmaking into their artmaking practice. Ample handouts, directions and resources will be provided for you to continue this artform long after the workshop! This intensive workshop is beginner-friendly, but all skill levels are encouraged! Students provide: A handful of decorative paper sheets, 18x24”; a more detailed description of paper requirements will be sent via email prior to the workshop Any bookmaking tools you have: bone folder, awl, 12-18” ruler, cutting mat, Exacto knife. The instructor will also provide these items, you do not need to purchase them if you do not already own them. Roll of Paper Towels, Pencil and notebook/sketchbook About the Instructor: Dave DiMarchi is a queer, multi-disciplinary artist working in printmaking, papermaking and sculptural book forms.
