Comic Book Art: Crafting Stories Tuesdays, 5:30 - 8:00 PM Four classes: March 4th, 11th, 18th, and April 1st. Ages: Adults This class will explore the principles of narrative storytelling and visually interpreting them in comic book form. Students will leave with three to four complete short form stories by the end of the class and a greater awareness of how stories are structured and what makes them work. Students provide: Notebook/sketchbook Pencils Micron Pens Colored Markers (optional) The Writer’s Journey by Christopher Vogler (suggested but optional) About the Instructor: Gene Kim is a Korean-American storyboard artist who has worked on shows for Netflix, Amazon Studios, Angel Studios, HBO Max and more. He was previously a CG artist at Disney’s Blue Sky Studios (Ice Age, Rio) and a CG intern at Pixar Animation Studios before then. Saturday, March 8th, 15th . 11 AM – 4 PM Explore repeatable printmaking at its easiest, most accessible form. This workshop will teach you these ins and outs of non-chemical intaglio printmaking—a centuries-old technique for translating drawings and marks into a repeatable edition of prints. Using simple skills, artists will have the opportunity to discover the ease of quick and easy intaglio printing. Along the way, artists may learn about basic viscosity printing, chine colle and exploratory inking techniques. No experience necessary; beginners are encouraged! Enrolled artists will be emailed a small list of items and images to provide closer to the start of this workshop. Students provide: – 5×7” source images, printed or drawn in grayscale with full tonal range (including darks, midtones, and highlights). – A selection of scratching tools such as needles, knives, screws/nails, and sandpaper/files. John James Audubon: A Visionary Artist – Presentation by Tom Lamb

Tom Lamb will give a brief overview of the extraordinary life and achievements of John James Audubon, along with what makes him the greatest bird artist, and some of the controversies that surround him. Tom will also discuss why Audubon prints are so valued and why some publishers of the prints might be more desirable than others. Tom Lamb is a retired auction specialist who started at Christie’s in 1980 in London and moved to Bloomsbury Book auctions in 2007, and to Bonhams Book department in 2011 before retiring in 2021. He was always involved in book and map auction records. In his retirement he has set up a consultancy firm providing advice on Appraisals and Estate management. The Rock Shack goes back to the metal bin! Deep Recursion returns to the ‘Shack with their blend of Death/Progressive/Math/Slam/Jazz/Extreme/Hardcore Metal. Spoon of Ukobach’s brand of prog metal is equal parts thoughtful complexity with bone crushing riffs. Corevalay is an original, high energy band that showcases hard rock/metal/hip-hop influences with heavy riffs, head-bobbing grooves, and powerful melodies. NJ based band, The Martyr are quickly becoming recognized as the dominant powerhouse of the tri-state, break-neck metal scene with their fusion of heavy guitar riffs with beautiful dynamic melodies and a maximalist edge. They are fresh off an opening gig with the national touring bands Hawk and Ghost Kid. "The whole is greater than the sum of the parts". So it is with Deni Bonet & Chris Flynn. As individual artists, they have more than made their mark in music.
