Comic Book Art: Crafting Stories
Comic Book Art: Crafting Stories Tuesdays, 5:30 - 8:00 PM Four classes: March 4th, 11th, 18th, and April 1st. Ages: Adults This class will explore the principles of narrative storytelling and visually interpreting them in comic book form. Students will leave with three to four complete short form stories by the end of the class and a greater awareness of how stories are structured and what makes them work. Students provide: Notebook/sketchbook Pencils Micron Pens Colored Markers (optional) The Writer’s Journey by Christopher Vogler (suggested but optional) About the Instructor: Gene Kim is a Korean-American storyboard artist who has worked on shows for Netflix, Amazon Studios, Angel Studios, HBO Max and more. He was previously a CG artist at Disney’s Blue Sky Studios (Ice Age, Rio) and a CG intern at Pixar Animation Studios before then. His own award-winning original animated and live action work has played internationally on the film festival circuit. Are you looking to create posters or work on a personal project but need more space? Join Kath Yarkosky for a two-hour open workshop held every first Thursday of the month! Whether a beginner or an experienced printer, you’ll find a supportive community and space to explore our wood and lead-type collection. We have a Vandercook Universal #1 press, a Galley proofing press, and a large selection of inks. The workshop will provide various papers for proofing and printing. Students provide: Any materials you wish to run through the press should be relatively flat. Suitable items include dried plants, paper cut-outs, clothing, and stuffed animals (without their stuffing). If you have any questions about the materials, please contact Kath at kath AT frontlinearts DOT org. Additionally, bring a sketchbook to jot down ideas and take notes. St Patrick’s Day Cookie Class
In our 2-hour class, youll learn the art of piping and flooding while crafting whimsical cookies that are perfect for any festive occasion. Imagine the joy of creating your very own beer mugs, horseshoes, and shamrocks, all while picking up tips and tricks to elevate your baking skills. Our friendly instructors are here to support you every step of the way, ready to answer any cookie-related questions you might have. By the end of the class, not only will you take home a delightful stash of beautifully decorated cookies, but you'll also walk away with newfound confidence and skills that will elevate your cookie game to the next level!
Advanced Silkscreen
Thursdays, 5:30 PM - 8:30 PM March 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th Take your practice to the next level! This 4 week class will focus on creating multi-layer prints by exposing hand-drawn separations onto silkscreens. Students will learn every step of the process, plus tips and tricks for perfecting the multi-layered print. Class time will include demonstrations, one-on-one work with the instructor, group discussions, and creating a new body of work or experimenting with new ideas. Students provide: Sharpie Oil Paint Markers, black each size Pad of newsprint 11x14" Pad of Stonehenge paper 11x14" Pad of clear acetate 11x14" Plastic containers for ink (sour cream, yogurt, takeout cups) Spatulas or spoons for mixing ink Sketchbook Masking tape You own screens (optional) Specialty ink colors (optional) Separately, Frontline Arts provides silkscreen materials About the Instructor: Kristian Battell is an artist practicing in Jersey City, NJ. She completed her Masters of Fine Art at the School of Visual Arts in New York, NY. Battell always considered herself more of a traditional printmaker, having a BFA in Printmaking and Art of the Book from Purchase College, but the pandemic has shifted her practice to sculpture and installation.
