Jeff Hersch, July Artist of the Month at Gallery on Main

SOMERVILLE — In July, Gallery on Main's Artist of the Month series features collage by New Jersey-based artist Jeff Hersch. His work will be on view, and available for purchase, from July 1 through 31, 2022. Meet the artist at a free opening reception on Saturday, July 2, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Jeff Hersch provides what he calls “analog collages for the modern being.” Like his thoughts, these pieces are often constructed in short, frantic spurts of energy, with bursts of self-doubt, though calm and subtle. These pieces represent Hersch’s “everyday observations and conclusions about the vast world that erratically suffocates us, with little time for a quick escape or chance to relax, as we are currently inhabiting an advanced state of infinite stimulus.” His works, says the artist, “lend themselves to your own interpretation of meaning—if any—but should also serve as inspiration and demonstrate the simple notion that you, too, can and should create something, anything, on a regular basis.” When he’s not hunched over his desk cutting and gluing clippings, Hersch finds the time to play in bands (Glazer, Civic Mimic, Postman Agitator) and volunteer as the executive director of Flemington DIY, a non-profit community arts space

The Bedminster Farmers Market is located at River Road Park, 3055 River Road (intersection of River Road and Route 202/206 South), Bedminster, New Jersey. Opening day is Saturday, May 28th and the season will run through December 10th. The market hours are 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM through the end of October, and 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM during November and December. Note: the Farmers Market will not be held on October 15th, the day of the Far Hills Races.

Led by Kristin Mylecraine, Yoga Teacher. Yoga is a great way to relax, connect with yourself, and increase flexibility and strength. Explore the connections between yoga and nature in this 75-minute class. No experience necessary; all levels welcome. For ages 15 years and older. Preregistration is required.  Ticket sales end at 4:30 PM on the Friday before each class. You must pre-register, walk-ins will not be allowed to participate. We are offering an in-person class at the sanctuary and a virtual class online simultaneously. The in-person class has a limit of 10 people. Be sure to purchase the correct ticket. Pastels have been used to create beautiful and bold color drawings throughout the centuries. Students will learn about the different types of pastel and how to blend and layer pastel to get a soft haze or sharp edge. The instructor will demonstrate how to approach a pastel drawing through various stages; from the composition and getting the correct proportions and perspective, to understanding which colors to use to get the correct shade you're looking for. Students can bring their own photos or use the reference provided by the instructor. Join professional natural history photographer, Blaine Rothauser, on a journey into the world of pollinators. About this event If you love nature photography and wild plant ecology, learn to photo-document the six-legged critters responsible for their beauty. Blaine will lead a hands-on journey through the meadows of Duke Farms and include a few macro-photography tricks along the way. While photographing insects, learn the evolutionary relationships between pollinators and host plants that will surely make for a memorable adventure! This walk is for people who have a combined love of natural history and nature photography and are not afraid to observe deeper and look closer. A 35mm DSLR and mirrorless cameras required. This session is not recommended for cellphone camera users. This program is appropriate for adults. Please dress for the weather. Participants should be prepared to walk about 1-mile on paved and unpaved trails. Meet in front of the Farm Barn Orientation Center for check-in.
