Stanley Gavidia, June Artist of the Month

This June, Gallery on Main's Artist of the Month series features oil paintings by Bloomfield, New Jersey-based artist Stanley Gavidia. His work will be on view, and available for purchase, from June 1 through 30, 2022. Meet the artist at a free opening reception on Saturday, June 4, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Before moving to New Jersey, Hugo Stanley Gavidia Tolentino grew up in El Salvador, and he studied visual art at National Art Center of El Salvador (CENAR). He has participated in many collective exhibitions, including at Studio Montclair Inc, Artfront Galleries, Open Doors Newark, Bronx Pre¬ Biennale Art, Queens Museum, and Hamilton Street Gallery, among others. In his artwork Mr. Gavidia communicates knowledge through basic concepts of vitality and universal values. He also attempts to convey insight into the truth through an exaltation of the mind or the soul. Says the artist, “I can't say anything concrete about painting, what happens on the canvas is unpredictable and surprising to me. Each painting suggests something. Once I sense the suggestion, I begin to paint intuitively and when the painting is finished, the subject reveals itself. I leave it to the spectator to fix meaning. It can always be

Somerset County 4-H Trainmasters Annual Spring Train Show

The Annual Spring Show of the Somerset County 4-H Trainmasters is returning for 2022, and will be held on Saturday and Sunday, June 11th and 12th from 10:00am-5:00pm each day. The first 20 children through the doors each day will receive a prize! Admission is $4.00 per Adult and $2.00 for Children under the age of 12 years old. Children under the age of 2 years old are free! There will be a variety of pre-owned trains and train-related items available for purchase at the event, as well as a select group of vendors in the main train layout area. Full concessions are available throughout the show. Since the Trainmasters are a 4-H Club, only cash is accepted for admissions / concessions. We apologize for the inconvenience. Garden State Watercolor Society’s “Small but Mighty” Art Exhibition at Farmstead Arts

Garden State Watercolor Society’s “Small but Mighty,” the 4th Annual small works art exhibition, will be on display June 12 to July 17 at Farmstead Arts Center, 450 King George Road, Basking Ridge, NJ. The exhibit features the works of fifty-two Garden State Watercolor Society artists with a total of 99 small works. Paintings consist of original water media (watercolor, acrylic, gouache, casein, or egg tempera) on paper, Claybord, or Yupo. Artworks measure 10” or less on any side. Paintings in the exhibit were juried for $500 in prizes by Lena Shiffman, children’s book illustrator and watercolor instructor. Raritan Valley Symphonic Band – Annual Pops Concert “Tribute to America” Sunday June 12 @ 3 pm The Raritan Valley Symphonic Band under the direction of John C. Hylkema, proudly presents its annual Pops Concert “Tribute to America” on Sunday, June 12 at 3 PM. The concert will be held at Bridgewater-Raritan High School, 600 Garretson Road, Bridgewater. For this concert, we celebrate America, its landmarks, its composers, and its music! You will hear many traditional American marches such as American Exultant by Henry Fillmore, National Emblem by E.E. Bagley, and The Stars and Stripes Forever by John Philip Sousa. The program includes an arrangement of Lowell Mason's hymn tune My Faith Looks Up To Thee, as well as two medleys by American-born composers Irving Berlin and George Gershwin. These medleys include favorites such as This is a Great Country, This is the Army, Mr. Jones, Give Me Your Tired, Your Poor and God Bless America (Berlin) and An American In Paris, Strike Up the Band, and Rhapsody in Blue (Gershwin).
