Exhibition: Photographs by Debra Fedchin, Artist of the Month

Gallery on Main's Artist of the Month series continues in October with haunting photographs by award-winning, New Jersey-based artist Debra Fedchin. The exhibition features an eclectic and quirky, diverse collection of abandonments, the somewhat unusual, and bucolic countryside scenes. Debra’s work will be on view, and available for purchase, from October 1 through 31. Meet the artist at a free opening reception on Saturday, October 2, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Says Debra—whose work runs the gamut of photojournalism through fine art photography, "As a self-taught photographer from central New Jersey, from the time I picked up my first Kodak Instamatic camera, I have enjoyed the view from behind a lens. Photography turned more into a passion when I acquired my Minolta SRT 101 at the age of 18. Life got in the way throughout the years, but my camera has always been my escape valve.” “Through my photography I strive to capture an image that will suggest a pleasant remembrance long forgotten, invoke a mood, or have you wonder about what the possible story behind it is. Farm Tours: The tour takes you on a hay wagon ride from our farm stand area to the farm, then you can get off and see all the animals. Some of the animals you will find are cows, miniature donkeys (yep, we have a Dominick the donkey!), horses, alpaca, sheep, chickens, goats, pigs, bunnies, emu's and even a zonkey. Then when you have had a chance to see all the animals, you can catch the next hayride right to our pumpkin patch. The Pumpkin Patch: After the farm, you will take a scenic ride out to one of our pumpkin patches. We grow over 60 different varieties of pumpkins, gourds & winter squash for you to choose from. In the pumpkin patch you can explore and find many different and interesting color and shaped pumpkins, gourds & winter squash. The colors you can find range from orange, to white to blue to green to even pink. Then after you have found your perfect pumpkins, gourds and squash you will take another hayride back to our farm stand area. The second annual Scarecrow Stroll lines Morristown Road/Mine Brook Road from Church Street to Claremont Road with a collection of creatively decorated scarecrows built by members of the community! All businesses, residents, students, and other members of the community are welcome to reserve a space and decorate a scarecrow. Scarecrows will be on display starting October 16 for two weeks and will be available for public vote! Winners will receive a prize (to be announced).

EMBRACE HOPE: BREAST CANCER AWARENESS MURAL AT BRIDGEWATER COMMONS

Bridgewater Commons proudly supports Breast Cancer Awareness. In partnership with the Connie Dwyer Breast Cancer Foundation, a photographic mural will be on display featuring six specialists in striking photos captured by NJ photographer Joy Glenn where each image includes a personal message of hope in the fight against cancer. Visitors can donate via a QR code to help the Foundation fund critical resources in their fight to save lives. In addition, a 15-foot-wide breast cancer awareness pink ribbon ties the mural together. The Embrace Hope mural is located on the Lower Level across from Build-A-Bear Workshop and will be on display through Oct. 31, 2021. Through their sponsored facilities, the Connie Dwyer Breast Cancer Foundation serves underprivileged and vulnerable women in N.J. by ensuring the availability of top-quality breast-health services including screening, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. Celebrate Halloween early at the Raritan Valley Community College Planetarium. The Planetarium is offering several in-person Halloween shows this October, including star shows, laser concerts, and even a Harry Potter-themed tour of the sky. Face masks are required in all campus buildings, including in the Planetarium. The following shows will be presented at the Planetarium in Branchburg: Spooky Skies, Saturdays, October 23 and 30, 3 & 7 p.m. This Halloween, come to the RVCC Planetarium to witness spine-chilling tricks and treats of Spooky Skies. The show takes viewers back to medieval Ireland to explore the roots of the Halloween holiday, then goes into the heavens to draw parallels between some celestial objects and famous monsters. What does a werewolf have on an inescapable Black Hole; a noxious, deadly planet like Venus; or a crushing, dangerous supernova? (Recommended for ages 8-adult) Planetarium tickets cost $10 for one show, $18 for two shows back-to-back on the same day. Reservations are recommended, but all ticket sales are done at the door on the day of the show. Late admission to Planetarium shows is not permitted.
