Maxwell Mustardo: Deform Follows Defunction

Maxwell Mustardo: Deform Follows Defunction presents the work of ceramic artist Maxwell Mustardo (Pittstown, NJ). Mustardo received a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Bachelor of Science in Art History and Theory from the New York State College of Ceramics at Alfred University. He has been a resident artist at the Takaezu Studio, the Mendocino Art Center, the Houston Center for Contemporary Craft, the Sonoma Community Center, & the New Harmony Clay Project. Plein Air Papermaking with Dave DiMarchi

Saturday, May 29th, 10am-3pm Members: $110, Non-Members: $125, Material Fee: $25 Explore the techniques of traditional handmade paper! Artists will learn the basics of pulling sheets and creating collage-work in the wet-process in this introductory workshop. Using found papers, objects, and materials, students will create artworks exploring the possibilities of paper pulp. Techniques taught include blow outs, inclusions, double-couching, shaped deckles and pigmenting pulp. Students are encouraged to bring papers, objects and materials that have minimal dimension and can be added to their work collages. This course will dive into papermaking processes and techniques easily translatable to working in COVID-safe environments, like shared studios, or at home. A meditative form of art-making, let papermaking allow you to introduce new means of making into your art practices. Beginners welcome! No experience necessary! The rain date will be Sunday, May 30th, 10am-3pm. *Due to COVID-19, this workshop will be held outdoors in an open-air tent on a paved surface. The nature of hand papermaking is an intensive, wet process; sneakers, water shoes, study flip-flops or Crocs are ideal footwear. You may wish to also bring a change of clothes to this workshop, as surfaces, clothes and surrounding areas may get very wet.

Summer Stage is coming BACK! We are bringing back a safe Summer Stage outdoor concert series on Division Street every Saturday starting May 29, 2021 until Saturday October 2, 2021 from 6pm-9pm. Community and audience members must adhere to the following event guidelines for us to safely host this series for you to enjoy: Maintain 6 feet distancing at all times Wear a mask (per NJ State Mandate 163 for outdoor gatherings) IMPORTANT: Our 2021 Summer Stage event is meant to be a passive recreational event, meaning there will be no formal seating available and we do not expect participants to congregate in the area of the performance for large periods of time. We understand that some people (small children, elderly, etc.) might need to sit which is why we are encouraging those that need it to bring their own chairs. Those participants are required to ensure 6 feet of distance between themselves and others and are doing so at their own risk. Per Governor Murphy's order, masks are to be worn outdoors if social distancing cannot be achieved. A designated representative of the Downtown Somerville Alliance will be on hand to ensure that crowds do not exceed the person
