Colonial Christmas Contest “What the Holidays Mean to Me”

A Colonial Christmas Contest! Spending time with family and friends? Gift exchanges? Volunteering in the community? The holidays mean something different to everyone, and the way each person celebrates can vary. As the holidays approach, The Jacobus Vanderveer House wants to hear about your traditions, homecoming stories, and the places and people that make this season special to you. Get creative and share your thoughts on the meaning of the holidays through a poster (22 x 28 inches), poem or essay (1,000 words or less). What do the Holidays Mean to Me? To Enter: Upload a photo of a poster (22 x 28 inches), poem or essay (1,000 words or less) along with your name, age, email and phone number to Entries are free and open to the entire community. The deadline for entries is November 28, 2020. Winners will be contacted prior to Colonial Christmas. Entries will be judged by age group: Pre K-3rd Grade 4th Grade-8th Grade 9th Grade – 12th Grade 18 and up Winners to Receive: Pre K-3rd Grade: Crayola Art Case and Free Admission for four to Colonial Christmas 4th Grade-8th Grade: $50 Gift Card and Free Admission for four to Colonial Christmas 9th

Wallace House Women & Old Dutch Parsonage Suffrage Stories

Explore Wallace House State Historic Site from the perspectives of ten women who lived and labored here when the historic house served as George Washington’s winter headquarters in the Revolutionary War. Meet women in slavery and freedom who carried the Continental Army through the Middlebrook Cantonment of 1778-79 from Hannah Till and Mary Maddox to Martha Washington. Expand on their stories with a reflection on Old Dutch Parsonage State Historic Site’s roles in the long history of women’s suffrage in New Jersey from the eighteenth century to the Nineteenth Amendment. To celebrate The Center’s 50th anniversary this fall, curators John Yau and Wes Sherman spent over a year assembling the work of nineteen contemporary artists. Safe Santa is on his jolly way to Bridgewater Commons! Located in Center Court on the Lower Level, Safe Santa Celebration welcomes families for safe, socially-distanced visits and photos via a reimagined no-touch, walk-though experience filled with holiday magic, surprise and wonder. Beginning Sunday, Nov. 1, shoppers may visit the Bridgewater Commons’ website at to book a reservation. Reservations are required to ensure your choice of preferred day and time. Purchases of photos are made at the experience. Virtual visits with Santa via Zoom also available!
